Question about Ryobi 30 Cubic Centimeter Gas Brush Cutter

1 Answer

The fuel line leaks coming out of the plastic fuel tank on my Ryobi Brush Trimmer (990R I think). I am replacing the old plastic fuel lines into the tank but noticed that they are a little loose too. Any suggestions on sealing around them?

There is a little white ring that goes over the line and into the opening on the tank. This is what seals the line so the gas won't leak out. They are about $1.00 at any small engine service shop.

Need to replace the gas lines to and from the carb. Also within the tank.

if it has a primer bulb , the line probably goes to that
It may you to consider a new fuel tank as they come with all hoses , new cap , line filter in the tank
The hose is not plastic but a silicon hose which although short is very expensive plus the fact that you have to get it through the stopper in the tank ( which is probably leaking as well)
I have just replaced the tank assembly for a ryobi 25cc trimmer for $40.00 aud and I feel sure that you will spend almost that in replacing the lines , in time

How to replace fuel lines on model725r ryobiweed wacker

There are usually only two fuel lines on a Ryobi motor, a supply and a return line. The supply line is a long one and is designed to move around the tank as the unit is moved around, some hafe a weight with a filter on in the tank. The other line is shorter and just protrudes into the tank, this is the return line. The piping you fit should be the special silicon rubber pipes as these are fuel proof, normal plastic pipes become hard and do not move around in the tank, and eventually crack or disintergrate. Replace the new pipes the same as you remove the old ones, if you go wrong, just change the pipes around on the carb, you will see if you are sucking air with the primer bulb.

Can someone tell me where to find replacement fuel hose for this style of Ryobi? The existing line has hardened with time and is leaking fuel / sucking air iat an inline connection below the primer bulb. I...

Your local repair shop should carry this fuel line in large quantities and sell it by the foot or by the inch. Your Ryobi probably uses Homelite's 3/64" line.
Homelite #70310-98 or Rotary #20-8645
Homelite Consumer Products is the company that made your 30cc Ryobi trimmer. At their website (www.homelite.com) they offer a replacement tank assembly which would include the fuel line.
I think your best opportunity is with the local repair shop.
Good luck!

Ryobi 700r gas trimmer. Leaking fuel from the fuel return line...what is the best way to fix this?...seems to be leaking where the tube goes up into the fuel tank. thanks.

There is no nipple. The fuel line is just pushed through and holds itself tight against the hole in the tank.

This is the return line from the primer bulb, right?

Just replace the line and you should be fine. I think that some of these Ryobi lines are 3/16 OD and 3/32 ID, but I just picked up a Ryobi fuel line kit at Home Depot today, and the black line seems to fit nicely here. (My trimmer still won't start, but at least it doesn't leak gas any more.) Be careful to note which line comes from where on the orimer bulb.

The primer bulb sucks fuel from the tank to the carb. When the carb has enough fuel the remainder is sent back to the tank. When you replaced the fuel line did you use the exact length of line and did you re-install the filter. On some of the trimmers the filter is weighted and holds the line in the fuel. Good luck...Lee

Replacing fuel lines on ryobi 767r trimmer

The longest, and sometimes smaller in diameter of the two fuel lines, goes from the carburetor to the bottom of the tank. Leave enough slack in this line so that the filter that attaches to the end will rest comfortably at the bottom of the tank.

The other fuel line goes from the primer bulb to just inside the tank, (about an inch). make sure that you get the right size fuel lines. The plastic coupling goes on the end of this line, inside the tank. This keeps the line from pulling out of the tank.

(HINT): When feeding the lines through the tank holes, cut the lines at an angle. They will feed much easier into the holes. You can than cut them off square, once you know that you have enough to work with.

If you need further assistance, just let me know.

Ryobi 768r fuel line

Line from tank with the filter on it is the supply line and goes to the carb inlet fitting. This is typically on the "bottom" of the carb (with the tank being up) and will usually have a fitting with barbs or a bulge on it to ensure a tight fit. The other fitting on the carb is the return line and is usually a straight tube fitting with no barbs. That line goes the suction side of the primer bulb. The third line goes from the outlet of the primer bulb to the return barb fitting in the bottom of the tank. Fittings have to be removed from tank to properly install the new hoses on them. Remove retainer ring on outide of tank and push fittings into tank, then shake out of the fill opening. More details on replacing hoses are listed in another post about Repairing Ryobi trimmer.
