If the hard drive isn't detected at all by your computer then it may be defective. If you can test it on Linux or Mac and see if those detect it, may just be a driver issue in Windows. You can also try going to Disk Management in Windows and seeing if its there and manually assigning a letter or if that doesn't work you can try a hard drive data recovery program from http://www.stellarinfo.com/download.htm. Hope it helps!

You have 2 options to recover your music: data recovery service in your city or download special file recovery software from the net. Usually, data recovery services are much expensive when compared with using a data recovery software. My recommendation is to try free or trial software solution (for example: https://www.cleverfiles.com/hard-drive-data-recovery.html), then check whether the software is fully capable of recovering the deleted files or not and if yes, then upgrade to the Pro version to actually recover your files. Prices are about $89-$129 for the Pro version.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Your drive may be in NTFS file format that is not supported natively by your mac, try looking for NTFS support or reformat your drive to FAT32.

I have a smartdisk Fire Lite external harddrive - When I plug it into the usb hub the computer does not acknowledge it

Hello

If you power up the drive and you can feel that the drive is actually spinning, a periodic clicking noise is bad news.
Does the computer make a sound when you plug it in, or does it make a sound.

If the computer recognize when you plug it in, but it just not show in my computer, here is how you fix the problem. Go to:

control panel
Administrative tools
Computer management
Storage
Disc management

Now you should see your drive in the schematic below. Right click on it and choose the option to change drive letter or paths. Now just assign a new drive letter to the drive, restart your computer and it should work fine.

Best regards
Andrea

I had this same problem. One option is to open the smartdisk up. It should have a seagate ata drive inside. Attach it to a computer as a slave drive. Your dive will appear as a secondary drive on your computer. you should be able to get all your files off the drive. If your worried about voiding your computers warranty you can buy a usb adapter to make the drive act as an external drive. I highly recommend never using this drive again. I used it as my main hard drive and it fried on me. If you plan on getting rid of this drive let me. I need the circuit board to get my music files and portfolio off my failed drive. Thank you.

Crossfire 160gb external hard drive.

If the drive was formatted in a newer windows OS and it is the NTFS file system, the Mac OS will only have read access. You can check this by plugging it in and checking the properties. To solve this you can copy your stuff off and reformat in the FAT32 format, you will only lose the security features that NTFS offers.
