Question about Mitsubishi WD-57731 57" Projection HDTV

Is there supposed to be a cooling fan for the lamp ??

I just put in my second replacemnt lamp (correctly) and the tv fired up great! after 15 minutes I smelled heat or the smell of electric heat. I sniffed the back of the tv all over maybe my tv i didn't know. So I shut off my tv to check it's cooling off mode and I was surprised that I did not hear a fan. then moments later I heard a click and I looked at the tv and the "lamp" led was flashing and then went off after a few. I suspect I have a cooling fan problem?? Where do I begin??

Mitsubishi had a problem with the power board in a lot of the DLP sets. The fans would not turn on when they were supposed to, and the lamp would create too much heat. Call mistubishi support, have your model and serial numbers handy. Sometimes they will warranty this problem een after the 1yr warranty has expired.

I have a samsung dlp. In the past 3 months I have replaced a ballast, lamp and a color wheel. After lamp replacement tv worked great for three weeks. Now TV comes on great but turns off after about two...

It could be that a cooling fan is not operating correctly, allowing the unit to over heat, or the power supply board could be failing. I would remove lower rear cover and see if fan(s) are turning.

I just replaced the lamp in my tv, it will work fine for 10-15 minutes, after that the picture will start to flicker and then just go out completley and th lamp light will blink on the tv set, what could...

My 50HM66 did the same thing. Try putting a fan to the side of the tv so it blows cool air around the back. I also removed lamp and vaccuumed as best I could. I think this is an overheating issue with the tv.

Reseting the lamp meter on tv

1) Press the POWER button to turn your TV on. Make sure you are set to Cable/TV reception. If the "replace lamp. Reset Lamp timer" notice appears, press "EXIT" on your remote.
2) Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN BUTTON on the TV set (not the remote, the actual TV set)
3) Continue to press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button and press and hold the PIP (Picture in Picture) or SPLIT/PLAY button on your REMOTE control (your are pressing and holding BOTH of these buttons at the same time now).
4) After 5 or 10 seconds (be patient), the lamp serice menu will appear and say your lamp counter has been rest to '0' (zero). That's it, you are all done.

Now, I continue to have the power shut off after a few minutes of play. I think it is a problem with the cooling fan. Damn it all anyway.

Mitsubishi WD-62827---PICTURE TURNS GREEN

I had the same problem. I deducted that if my TV worked fine for an hour or so and then the colors became bad (green, people's faces purple...), it must be a overheating problem. Simple logic, right? So, I picked up a few tools and a small vaccum and went to work.
I went first for the main source of heat: The lamp. Just a few screws, and I removed it. The lamp cage has a fine screen to prevent the dust to cover the lamp. Mine was covered with dust! And the fan behind the lamp was also covered with dust! Bingo!!! That's my problem! I cleaned everything and vaccumed all the air vents on the the back of the TV. I put the lamp back and checked that the fan was working. The TV works like new since!
Before you are out of a TV for days and spend an arm and a leg for a "Technician" to fix it (replacing expensive parts that didn't need to be replaced in the first place), try what I described above first. It's very simple and it takes only 15 minutes.
Since my TV is 2 1/2 years old, I purchased a replacement lamp. I know that one of these days it will burn out. I'll be ready and my TV will be working again in 15 minutes!
Since my problem was solved, I didn't go to the next step. There must be one or two other cooling fans inside the TV, but they must be working...
Good luck,

I would recommend replacing the fan, cleaning it doesn't solve the problem...If it does, it's only a temporary fix. Replacement fan is around $30 and easy enough to do yourself...

Panasonic large screen Model # PT-61LCX65

Here is the proceedure to replace the lamp and reset the lamp hours.
Lamp Replacement Procedure:
1. Press the POWER button to turn off the power.
2. Wait for about 1 minute until the cooling fan stops.
Note:
The lamp cooling fan will continue to operate for about 1
minute after the power is turned off. Do not unplug the AC
Cord from the outlet until the fan has stopped. Avoid
interrupting the power by using circuit breakers or switchable
power strips.
3. After the cooling fan has stopped, unplug the AC Cord from
the outlet.
Note:
Please wait more than one hour before replacing the lamp.
[ Forced cooling function ]
If you need to replace the lamp more urgently:
- The Projection display has a forced cooling feature.
After the POWER button is turned OFF, and during the
first minute of the normal cooling fan operation, press
the VOLUME UP button on the unit and CH UP key on
the remote at the same time for more than 5 seconds.
The cooling fan operates for about 10 minutes. (LAMP
LED will flash 5 times every 5 second and POWER LED
will flash red for 10 minutes.)
4. Remove the Front Cover Unit from the latches.
5. Turn the Knob to the left.
6. Pull the Lamp Cover out.
7. Loosen the Screw on the Lamp. Then, pull the Lamp.
Note:
Because the Lamp may still be hot, use caution when
handling.
8. Install the new Lamp, and tighten the Screw.
9. Install the Lamp Cover, and turn the Knob to the right.
10. Install the Front Cover Unit.
Lamp Time Reset Procedure:
Be sure to reset the Lamp time to "0" after replacing the new
Lamp.
1. Plug in the AC Cord, and turn on the power by pressing the
POWER button.
2. Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button on the unit and
the SPLIT key on the remote together for over 5 seconds
in power on condition.
When the reset is finished, the display will indicate that the lamp hrs have been reset to 0 and the LAMP LED goes out.
