A 3 in one start relay usually runs about $75 and it is not that difficult to replace if you are sure that this is the problem there is also the chance that the compressor could be damaged. you do not want to replace just the relay as there is also an overload circuit the 3 in 1 starters have everything in it and good instructions as far as which wire goes where you have 2 wires for 120 volt in and then three connection on the compressor

Clicks but wont start

The most likely problem is the battery. Take the battery out of your bike and take it to an automotive parts store or somewhere that can run a "load test" on the battery. Depending on what year and model bike you have, it could be a problem with the starter or the starter relay. If the "click" you hear is a very faint one, it could the the starter relay which is a plastic cube type device about one inch dimensionally. The same type of relays you find in todays automobiles. This device is activated by the "start" switch and it activates the solenoid section of the starter. If the "click" is a relatively loud click, it's probably the solenoid of the starter. If the battery is good but all you hear is the "click", the large copper contacts in the solenoid are probably burned and need replacing. The procedure for doing this is not difficult but varies with year and model bike. On the late model bikes, you take the 5-sided plate off the backside of the starter and pull the plunger and spring out. Inside, you'll see two large copper contacts. If they look burned and uneven across the face, they need to be replaced. Disconnect the battery and a kit is available that has everything in it that you need to rebuild the solenoid.

Good Luck

The compressor clunks very loudly when it cycles off but the mounts seem solid. What's the cost having a new compressor installed?

If your refrigerator is very old model then the clunks you are hearing is most probably from starter relay which was mechanical in those days. You can get this starter replaced with the electronic one without any compressor change or modification.

More accurate diagnostics maybe given by checking the refrigerator so before you go for any costly repair, do get it checked by a friendly refrigerator technician.

Im trying to locate the starter for 1994 jeep grand cherokee , see if its easy to replace, and also the location of the starter relay

starter relay is in power distribution center near battery. don't know which engine you have, but if you flollow the positive cable on the battery, it will lead you to the starter. Most are not difficult to replace, depends on how much experience you have. One tip...dont overtighten wire connections on starter the solenoid cover is plastic and can break.

Kenmore refrigerator 253.57192600 making clicking noise

It could be as simple as a bit of expansion and contraction of the wall panels or the damper which allows cooling to flow from the freezer to the fridge side.

Smell electircal burning

The Starter Relay consists of various parts depending on the make and model of your unit. Most larger Refrigerators have these 3 components: The relay itself, the Overload, and a capacitor. If you replace the Relay and if another component is bad then you would still have a problem. A service technician could test each component individually. The first move I would make is to use an Amprobe electricians meter and check the amperage that the compressor is pulling. If the compressor is VERY HOT to the touch and pulling a lot of amperage current, than you'd need to have the compressor replaced. THis is usually the case if the unit is approx 10 years give or take. This is a very expensive fix...usually around $500 or more so it's probably worth buying a new Refrigerator if that's the case.

Refrigerator humming noise and loss of coolness in freezer.

the relay overload on the compressor is bad. its a very common problem. replace the relay overload and it will start back up again. ( relay overload is what your calling the starter)
