If you're talking about the Red Ring of Death (three red lights on the ring of light on the front) then you have become one of the many Xbox owners with this problem. This is caused by one of two things, the first being a cable not being fully connected (just disconnect all the cables and turn it back on) or its the video chipset overheating (most common reason). Its not easily fixable, it requires a bit of modding inside the Xbox, not something easily done by everyone. If its no longer under warranty you can certainly search about the RRoD fix and if you feel comfortable with it, go for it, either way you can't lose, you have a fixed Xbox or you have a broken Xbox and you've not really lost anything (other than about 5 bucks for the parts needed).

This sounds like the Infamous Red Ring of Death also known as Rrod. This is basically where your circuitry has just burnt out and has died. You can either take it to a Game Shop to mend it or get a new 360. if you choose the new 360 R.I.P Someones 360
Yes, the three red flashing lights mean nothing else than "Red Ring of Death" (general hardware failure). You can post your xbox to home rapair "centers" but I wouldn't recomend that. When my x360 broke for the first time I sent it to some guy who was supposed to be "pro". I waited for 3 weeks an end up paying way to much than I should. It broke down again after a year and I decided to tray and repair it myself.
The most common mistake that beginners make is that they buy tutorials and repair sets from diffrent websites. (Diferent repair guides require diffrent repair tools). I tried a few of them and I think this X360 Fix Kit is simply the best thing you can get for the price. You'll get evreything you need with repair kit and easy to foolow lessons. Good luck.
yes that is a complete possibility. Ensure that the xbox power brick is not flashing red and is just on the standby orange color. Id recommend calling the people http://www.360-pros.com where you can get your xbox fixed for 60-100 dollars. I have used them before and found there work to be excellent and reliable. They fix all problems as i have seen many xbox's that have stopped working (mainly halo and older elite editions) not RROD either. If its broke they will fix it :).
