Question about Duracell Standby Power Plug 400 Watt Inverter

Open Question

Can I use a Duracell Standby Power Plug 400 to power a CPAP

The CPAP machine assists my breathing at night. The machine runs on 12 volts and draws 3 amps. How long will the machine run on a Duracell Power Plug 400? The Power Plug 400 supplies 17 Ah at 120 volts.

The difference in cost between this unit and one supplied by the medical supply house is huge.

Thank you for your assistance.

Thanks. I didn't really want to store an automotive battery in my bedroom - actually my wife told me that wasn't an option.

So my question still stands: How long will this machine run on the above mentioned power source?

SOURCE: I am looking at the same problem/solution

Ok, Heres the deal. A gel cell battery is 7.2 Ampere hrs, so to get 14,4 Ampere hours you would need two batteries connected in parallel. A F&P machine such as mine consumes around 60 Watts of power. Using Ohms law we get W= IxE or Watts = volts X amps[or amperes = watts / volts] so that a 60 Watt machine has a current draw of 60/110< =0.55A so that a 14.4 A/hr battery will run this machine for around 20hrs (allowing a residual charge of 25%)

Where can i wear at night to stop my snoring while sleeping?

Breathe Right strips work wonders for me. That is the over the counter option. If it is bad enough to need medical attention, there is a machine called a CPAP (Constant Positive Air Pressure) that attaches over your head and forces air into your nose while you sleep in order to help you breath.

How can i power my cpap sleep machine while camping

I bought a 12 volt DC power supply mechanism from cpap.com that can plug into the cigarette lighter of a car or truck, or be connected to an external 12 volt battery. Car batteries can only be drained and re-charged a few times, without damaging the battery. But marine batteries are available, used by fishermen to run electric trolling motors on their boats, that can be recharged indefinitely. They are heavy.

There seem to be a lot of different types of CPAP breathing machines for snoring and sleep apnea. Can anyone tell me the difference between them?

if you need to use a CPAP machine, then your specialist should tell you what kind of machine you need for your specific case. But watch this video on youtube from the CPAP website. It gives a basic overview about the different types of machines available;

Hope that helps you!

How do you know which CPAP snoring masks are best for you?

FOR ME I HAD TO HAVE A SLEEP STUDY DONE. IT IS A 2 DAY PROCESS. THEY HOOK UP ALL SORTS OF PROBS ON YOU AND MONITOR YOUR BREATHING. THE TEST WILL SHOW HOW MANY TIMES YOU STOP BREATHING. THEN YOU GO IN ON ANOTHER DAY AND THEY TRY DIFFERENT MASK DURING THE STUDY. ONCE YOU GET ACCUSTOM TO IT THEY MONITOR YOUR SLEEP AGAIN. THIS TIME, IF IT WORKS, YOU SLEEP THE REST OF THE NIGHT. FOR ME IT WAS WORTH IT.

On average how much do CPAP breathing machines cost to buy?

There isn't really an average price as there are so many different types of machines and masks. When I was looking to buy one they seemed to range from around $400 to $1,000.

I suggest that you ask your specialist to tell you exactly what kind of help you need for your specific condition ie is it apnea or just snoring etc and from there you can start narrowing down your shopping options.

Why would my new 1500 watt inverter readout show overload 13.8 volts entering

It would show overload if you're drawing more power than it can supply. 1500 Watts is a very high output for an inverter but that is the maximum it's capable of. As with any electrical supply you should not draw the maximum power it's capable of as this can cause it to burn out. Around 1200 would be the max you should draw continuously. You need to check the power requirements of whatever you're running on it. Also you need to check that it's capable of taking 13.8 volts. If 12 volts is the recommended input, putting in 13.8 will increase the voltage output which could damage appliances being run on it.
