Question about Computers & Internet

Computer suddenly started running hot

I have an HP xw8200 workstation with 2 Xeon 3.4 GHz CPUs. They're not overclocked or anything and have never overheated before. The rooom temperature is about 75F and ambient temp inside the case is 39C. However one CPU is running 59C and the other hovers around 62C. The max for these is 72C, I think. The fans are turning and the side cover is removed, and I have cleaned the inside of the computer, including the fans on the CPU fans. The unit has shut down a couple of times when I've tried to reboot (with five beeps, which can indicate CPU failure). Any sugesstions would be appreciated.

You need to look at the specs for my particular computer. And I personally remounted the CPUs (and applied Arctic Silver to the CPU as I have done with other computers on numerous occasions), and this was months before the overheating issue. So no, your comments were not helpful, especially that this is not rocket science. I assure you I have worked through the troubleshooting steps.

Check your voltage. Get an app like "Hardware Sensors Monitor" I think that you can find it on downloads.com. And then see what is going on. Also, is humid where the computer is. I had this problem recently. Even though the outside temp was only about 60F, the humidity was cause things to run really hot. It was apparently causing some sort of short. Beyond try reapplying some better thermal paste, and better heat sink.

Oh yeah! I can not say enough about dusting the thing. You can get one little dust bunny dislodge and gum up your whole works.

I would look at the cpu's before judging the fans on this, also if everything checks out with the cpu's then why don't you try a compund that goes on the cpu before the fan, this compond is safe and will knock like 6-10 C off the top of the heat. Also You need two fans blowiing out and one blowing in and do not interupt the ariflow, make sure you have no holes, such as missing slot covers ETC ETC.. there is not real rocket science to cooling on this manner, Thank you

HP Workstation xw8200

Server 2008 is not detecting your drives, because it does not have drives for what ever hard drive controller you are using. You will need to determine which controller your drives are attached to and load the appropriate driver during setup. I believe this system has built in SCSI and SATA controller and often shipped with add - in storage cards. Our came with a promise sata raid controller.

Dose nvidia 8800gtx work with xw8200

quadro fx 4500 512 mb-

look the card up and see if its AGP or Pci-e

Then you can see how much you can upgrade it.
If its AGP your options are limited, but still there are new cards made that will work with AGP.

Dose hp xw8200 support nvidia 8800gtx

That computer can handle an 8800GTX because it does have 1 PCIe x16 slot for it, which is what the card requires. It also should have enough power for that card as well. I imagine the Quadro is in the PCIe x16 slot though so you have to choose which card to use, not both.

Quadro cards are for workstations that are for 3D modeling and things of that nature. They are very expensive graphics cards but do not play games all that well. I imagine the 8800GTX would play games better, and certainly run Crysis if the resolusion and settings are not on HIGH.
