Question about Kodak EASYSHARE 5300 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Ink cartridges don't last and can not use one without the other.

When ever I buy the combo ink cartridges, they only last for a week without me using them but one or two times. Also I can't use just a black cartridge without the color one. It won't let you do that.

Sounds to me like the cartridges are drying out quickly. Make sure you are using original cartridges and not the remanufactured ones or 3rd party ink cartridges. Also try to use your printer at least once every couple of days even if its just to print a document cause the longer you go without using it, the more of a chance that the cartridges will dry up.

Also one other thing, when the cartridge dries up you can try putting the bottom of the cartridge in a dish with warm water so the hole is covered with water, you can let it soak like this overnight then wipe off the bottom of the cartridge so its dry and then reinsert it back into the printer and see if that takes care of that issue, hope this helps.

Let me know if you need further help.

Refill cartridges

Sandra- some ink jet printer manufacturers are proprietary and use ink cartridges manufactured with "timers" built into them- making it almost impossible for the end-user to re-use them.

You mentioned that you refilled the cartridges; and without knowing what you actually mean by that, I will have to ask you; did you refill the cartridges yourself, or did you send them out to a third-party vendor?

Or perhaps, you are using a generic brand?

All of which can be problematic, if your particular model printer (not all) uses ink expiration technology on their ink cartridges or proprietary technology.

What does this mean? Ink expiration is a built-in date in which certain ink cartridges will stop working; even when there is still ink in them. Manufacturers like HP, claim that it uses such technology to protect the printing systems print-head and ink supply (which are two separate and distinct physical properties on certain printers).

Which now begs the question, does your printer have print-heads that are separate from the ink cartridges?

BTW, ink cartridge nozzles can dry out and block the flow of ink from its reservoir. You can try to manually clean the printer cartridges by using a q-tip swab dipped in rubbing alcohol until it is completely clean.

On a final note, another possibility in the troubleshooting process, reset the ink cartridges chip to full.

1) You can buy a universal ink cartridge resetting tool online or at a local computer or electronic store.

2.) When you do, remove the ink cartridges out of their holding carriages.

3.) Line up the device pins on the resetting tool and the chip on the cartridge. Press the pins and the chip together until they connect.

4.) Keep the pins and the chip connected until the device's LED light turns green (usually takes 10 seconds)- the chip on the ink cartridge will have reset.

5.) Reinsert the ink cartridge into the printer's ink carraige and print a test page. The printer should recognize the ink cartridge.

If all else fails and as a last resort, you will have to buy a brand new proprietary ink cartridge

Please keep me posted.

How long does ink last and why can't my printer work without one or the other?

Definitely a problem. The printer may be putting ink into the waste ink pad. When that\'s full your printer will need a new WIP which is a pain to change. I recommend getting another printer. I have be using Epson printers for the last 17 years with little to no problems. BTW, I purchase Refurbished from the Epson website. See Clearance and wait for a bargain.

New ink cartridge only last less than two weeks after printing less than 30 pages

I had that model and the same experience. I kept buying ink until I realized I could have nearly bought the printer for nearly the same cost as ink refills, black and color. I also had an HP. Same thing. I finally bought the Kodak 3250. The ads about ink costs was so correct. Many more pages are printed before the "need ink" message is displayed. Buying ink online saves even more.

I have replaced black ink cartridge 73N message on screen says Error i press ok to proceed message goes back saying replace ink cartridge?

The main problem in using the latest Epson printers, is the ink replacements. Ink cartridges like 73N has its own ink reseter (the little chip in front of the cartridge). Once you replaced the ink without using the right procedures, for example you have a 10% remaining ink level on one of the cartridge, and you replaced it without using the setup menu and selecting the replace ink cartridge, even though the cartridge is new, the printer will read the replaced cartridge as a 10% ink level cartridge. When the remaining 10%, drops to 0%, your cartridge will read as an empty cartridge. The chip on the cartridge is registered as an empty cartridge.
-try to replace the ink reseter or try to clean the cartridge chip then put back the ink.

I have a Brother MFC 3340CN and 1940CN,fax,print,copier I was working fine and then all at one message was yellow out of ink please replace and start again. It has a brand knew yellow ink cartiage in it...

The ink that is given to you when you buy a new machine is not the same as if you went out and bought ink. The "starter" ink cartridges are not filled completely (that is a marketing gimmick to get you to buy more quickly). When you say "NEW" do you mean "new, never been used", or "new, just got it last week"?

If it's never been used, be sure that you have removed the protective tape from that cartridge. If it's been removed then the cartridge its self could have a problem or the machine could be at fault (not correctly reading the ink). You choices are to return it to where you got it, or buy a yellow cartridge and replace it.

If it was working and stopped after a very short time (a week or two) I would get a new yellow and try it.

For your sake I hope it's the protective tape was forgotten, it happens quite often.

When i finish printing it sounds like it is cleaning the print heads. this is n ew I ordered direct and I have only had it two weeks and it is low on ink and I have scarcely used it

Welcome to the world of ink cartridges and ink use.

You may not believe you used that much ink but you have.

Starter cartridges are not necessarily full cartridge loads. However, if you purchase new ink cartridges from your printer's manufacturer, they will be full.

I've done some pictures that were son intensely busy that they killed a cartridge on the first run. Use is determined by the document and not how long you used the cartridge.

Lcd screen says no ink but they are full/new

You might have to pull out your cartridge/s and try dabbing the spot where the ink comes out (on the printer - not on the cartridge) lightly - with a Q-tip dipped in isopropyl alcohol.
How long ago was it since you last used your printer? These types of printers don't like to sit for more than a week or two without you printing at least one page on them.

Apparently, if you hold the "resume button" (the one next to the power button) for about five seconds after you get the message saying to replace the color ink cartridge the machine starts printing. I did this after I went to "maintenance" under "preferences" and changed ink to "black only." At first that alone did not work, but after trying the resume button for 5 secs it worked okay.

Epson C66 won't print without color cartidges

epson printers won't really print if one cartridge is not detected or detected as empty. the only option that i can suggest to you is that, buy a continous ink kit at any ink refilling station in your place. i highly recommend that dont leave a cartridge empty with ink cause it might clog your printhead. using a continous ink system's cartridge is auto reset, whenever the printer says that the cartridge is empty, it will automatically resets itself. ink refill kit comes with 100+ml of ink per color i think. and it is much cheaper using original epson ink.
