Re: cuts out

Hi Radiodude

Firstly check if all your fans are running. If it only does this indoors it means that the unit is not getting enough ventilation.

What to do with a image that is cut off?

Hi Anonymous,

Most of the time, when an image is cut off the problem is coming from the source.

I assume you are using a computer connected to the projector? Try using different resolutions in your computer's settings. If you are using Windows, right click on your desktop (away from any icons) and go to screen resolution to make the changes.

I hope this helps!

New bulb installed and it takes 10 plus minutes to start

Exchange the lamp under warranty...
You've tried almost everything else.
It's not that uncommon to experience "infancy failure" with a brand new lamp.

If the problem persists with the replacements replacement then I would suspect the Lamp power supply (Ballast) is failing.

Flashing yellow light

This problem is caused by the overheating sensor cutting in too early. Some bulbs seem to run hotter than others and the overhear sensor seems to gradually cut out at a lower temperature over time. The solution is simple. Open up the projector and you will find the sensor/cutoff bolted to the back of the lamp compartment (not visible from the lamp compartment), you need to take the top off to see it. The component is an Airpax 67L100. You can order a replacement from -- or other component vendors for between $5 and $9. Simply replace the current sensor with a new one (solder it in) and for just a few dollars you will be back in the game. If you want to give yourself a little more margin of heat replace the component with an airpax 67L110 (cut off at 110 degrees instead of 100 degrees). The extra 10 degrees will give you more ability to handle hotter bulbs.

If you want to verify that this really IS the problem before spending the $8 try unbolting the sensor and letting it remain loose. Since it is not bolted down it will not heat up as much and will likely solve the problem. Don't leave it that way though. Once you have satisfied yourself that sensor really is the problem order a replacement, solder it in, and bolt it back down so that it can do its job.

I hope that helps.

My ViewSonic PJ458D problem

This is known as 'cycling' and is common with mercury-vapor bulbs nearing end-of-life. When the bulb first starts, it glows dimly and grows in brillance. As the light grows, the pressure and temperature of the bulb also grows--increasing power demand. After a short while, the demand exceeds the ballast limit and the bulb extenguishes until the temperature (and pressure) drop again. Then, the cycle starts over. Bottom line: you need a new bulb (or, the correct bulb).

Projector overheating and turns off after 20 mins

I have a HP VP6111 projector that works fine on a table top but overheats ( overheating ) when turned upside down and hung from my ceiling. My solution...I went to Circuit City and bought two 80mm computer fans. I also purchased a 12V power supply from Radio Shack. I put one fan on front of my projector and the other on the back of the projector and wired them into the 12V power supply. I mounted both fans with velcro. The front fan pushes air and the rear fan pulls air. The projector now runs fine without shutting off. The fans are 12V and push 34 cubic feet per minute of air. I am very happy with this solution.
