Question about Acer Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Display smaller than screen capability

Problem #1: The display (desktop) on the monitor screen is smaller than the monitor. There is about an 1.5" black border all the way around the screen. The mouse arrow will not go into this border. It was not this way when we first set up the monitor but we can`t figure out how to make it full screen again. Issue #2: When opening the Acer eDisplay Management the adjust menu say we are currently at a Non-Preferred resolution. It says we should set to preferred by clicking the preferred button. However the Preferred button (just under the Pattern button) is not highlighted and will not click.

What kind of computer is this? What operating system, and what kind of monitor are you using? Is the monitor a CRT or LCD monitor? I'd like to help, but need more information.

Tip

How to resize your desktop background.

If your desktop is smaller than the dimensions of your monitor then follow the following steps to get a full screen:

Setting the resolution:

1) Right click on an open spot on your desktop and select Properties at the bottom of the popup menu.
slasher_x_35.jpg

2) This will then open up the Display Properties window as shown below.
slasher_x_36.jpg

3) Click on the Settings tab (it's to the top right of the Display Properties window as shown in the image below.
slasher_x_37.jpg

4) At the bottom left of the settings tab there is a Screen resolution heading with a slider bar beneath it.
5) Slide this bar to the left or right until you find the resolution you like.
6) The click Apply when you have found the right resolution.

Sliding the bar to the left = lower resolution, larger desktop icons and less quality.
Sliding the bar to the right = higher resolution, smaller desktop icons and better quality.
NB: If you are using a CRT (older screen) the max resolution will be around 1280x1024. Newer LCD screen (flat and thin monitors) can go way up to 1920x1080 and beyond if HD is supported.

NOTE: If when doing the screen resolution changes your screen goes blank after you click Apply then immediately hold down the Enter key to restore it back to your previous settings

If this doesn't work then it just maybe the case that you need to set the auto screen fit function on the monitor itself using the buttons provided on the monitor.

This tip is useful when you plug in a monitor and the screen displays the No Signal or Signal out of Range massages. Simply change the resolution to something the monitor can handle and there you go.

My computer monitor just has a window open that says ( D-SUB out of range 53.6khz/85hz) how can I fix this ?

1. Turn off your computer (you can do this by holding down the power button).
2. Making sure the monitor cable is plugged into the computer, turn the computer back on.
3. If there is something other than the error message on screen, begin tapping the F8 key on the keyboard as soon as the computer turns on. 3b. If nothing (other than the error) is shown on the screen after restarting, you must obtain another monitor and follow these steps from the beginning on that screen.
4. After less than a minute, you should get a menu like this

5. Select "Safe Mode" 7. Once at the Windows desktop, right click on the background, and select properties.

8. Select the "Settings" tab, and move the resolution slider all the way to the left.

9. Restart normally, and once in regular Windows, repeat steps 7 and 8, selecting the resolution of your choice.

How to make a screen smaller if the screen is all blew up and you cant find the buttons to make the screen smaller?

if the entire display is larger and you see scroll bars on pages, right-click your Windows Desktop and click Personalize or Properties. Click the Settings tab, then change your resolution to a higher number like 1024 by 768 or 1280 by 800.

if the screen appears stretched, it will be with your monitor. use the auto-adjust option of the monitor to correct it. hope this helps and a rating would be nice if this works.

ATTENTION OUT OF RANGE 74.7 kHz v:59.8 KHz

This means either your Refresh Rate or the resolution has been set (usually in the display settings of the operating system) beyond the monitors display capability. On a windows OS, go to START == CONTROL PANEL == DISPLAY == SETTINGS (for XP) or R click on the desktop and select SCREEN RESOLUTION for Windows 7 & VIsta. Use the slider to reduce the screen resolution to one that both looks good and fits within your monitors capability.

Hope This Helps FixYa! Please leave us some feedback if you found this information helpful.

Does the LB 23" monitor not have the capability to allow me to view one file on the LB monitor and another file on my notebook monitor?

It is not a question of monitor capabilities, it's down to what the video driver on your laptop is capable of. First try to make it show video on both monitors - usually it's Fn + function key that has "crt/lcd" on it or an icon of a display hotkey pressed once for laptop only, again for both, and again for external only) and then play with the desktop settings to have the desktop extend to your external monitor, instead of showing the same picture on both. Then you can move an application window out of your notebook screen to your external monitor.

When i turn my CRT on, after a few seconds my screen goes blank, then displays again, while this thing is happening, i can hear something switching... power led is on(green)... even when the display goes...

It sounds to me that the monitors power supply is dying. I would replace it with a different monitor as soon as possible. I would consider this a dangerous situation, and a possible fire hazard.

Thanks for using FixYa,

Hope this helps,

Eric
