Canon did not update the drivers for many of its older cameras for the Vista OS, the A80 included. In other words, you cannot directly download from the A80 using Vista. Please see the following blog article, as it describes the use of a card reader as an alternative and much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. In fact there are several important reasons discussed in the article for using a card reader vice downloading from the camera. USB Card readers are also very inexpensive these day, with cost virtually not an issue: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2009/01/how-do-i-download-photos-or-pictures.html

Driver for Pretec DC-300 Digital Camera for Windows Vista

Try this:

Uninstall the driver (if installed). Next, put in the driver CD and browse to the setup.exe file. Right click and select properties. In the box that opens, select compatibilty tab and select the box next to "runthis program in compatibilty mode for" and select XP SP2. and install the program

Should that not work, uninstall and retry the above process, but select Windows 98 or 2000 this time..Hopefully that will work.

If it still does not work, then unfortunately, you will either have to downgrade to XP (I believe the driver works for XP) or buy a new camera altogether..

I just got a new computer with Windows 7. I

Windows 7 and Windows Vista naturally tend to do "drivers" differently than Windows XP, the thing to do is check your device manager which is in control panel under classic view and goto System and look up Device Manager on the left-hand side. In there, you will probably find a box with a minus in it instead of a plus sign and it'll have something to do with your webcam. The best thing to do if that problem persists is to look up the manufactures website for the model of your camera and look up drivers to make it work and follow the hardware wizard that will be stated with it.

Hope this helps!

No it looks like they stopped the support at the old one, this means they did'nt make any drivers for the old one to function on vista.
Vista uses a very diferent driver model than xp does.
The drivers for xp won't work in any way on vista.

Most programs written for Windows XP also work in this version of Windows, but some older programs might run poorly or not at all. If an older program doesn't run correctly, use the Program Compatibility Wizard to simulate the behavior of earlier versions of Windows.
• Open the Program Compatibility Wizard by clicking the Start button getopencontent.aspx?assetid=4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33&documentset=en-us&renderkey=xml, clicking Control Panel, clicking Programs, and then clicking Use an older program with this version of Windows.
NoteTo find out if your programs (or programs you plan to buy) are compatible with Windows Vista, go online to the Windows Vista Compatibility Center. This website contains a comprehensive list of programs, computers, and devices that have been tested to work with Windows Vista.

Compatability with older programs

start menu... control panel... click on programs... under programs and features you will see "use an older program with this version of windows"

The compatability wizarrd will start.... let it show you the complete list of programs on your computer. chose one program at a time and run them in the under xp.

Repeat those steps for the programs that do not work properly under vista.

The answer to your problem might lie with the OS you are using. For whatever reason, when Microsoft brought out Vista it broke a lot of old programs and devices that worked perfectly fine. Why backwards compatability is beyond Microsoft, I don't know, but its an unfortunate circumstance.
Here is a link to Olympus' website, and a direct link to the SP-350 download page -
http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/software_results.asp?id=1188&os=w
I'm not sure if the drivers on the page are for Vista, its very vague but this is the first place to start.
Good luck!
