WIFI Connection Problem - connects only to EDGE

My iPhone pick up only the  EDGE network. I have a good wireless signal throughout the house and my laptop picks it up, and there are no problems. Also I see the iPhone if I connect it with the WLAN and it appears in the router list as a connected device.

In the past it worked sucessfully, but since a few days my iPhone connects by using Youtube, Safari or Mail allways and only over EDGE, even if WIFI is switched on. Also only the "E" signal icon is shown, now WIFI icon. Is there a setting on the Phone that I am missing or whats to do?

If you want to use wifi only when your at home you can go in and manually disable the cellular data so the internet will only be wifi based. Probably saving you MB's and data cost.

Go to Settings, General, Network, then simply turn off the Cellular Data. Then it won't connect anymore to the cell data and rely only on wifi when your connected to it.

And simple follow the same steps and revers the process when your out on the go.

Thanks

What can I do to make my iPhone wireless wifi connection in my house stronger.

You can try moving the wifi router a bit. If mine is fixed flat to the wall the signal is a lot weaker that if I stand it on a CD rack 2" from the wall.

You could buy a signal booster, or just ask DishNet to fix it. There is a D-Link gadget that they can plug unto the electric outlet near the router that will take your internet to any room in the house as long it is on the same circuit. you can plug a signal booster in at that location.

How to connect an iPhone to the Internet

Connecting your iPhone to the internet is an easy process. You just simply use any application on your iPhone which uses internet service.

Your iPhone can either use WiFi or Cellular for internet access.

- A WiFi network is simply a wireless network. You can find them at coffee shops, libraries or even at your house if you a router setup for wireless access.

- Cellular data networks allow Internet connectivity over the cellular network. Check your carrier's network coverage in your area for availability.

When you use an application on your iPhone that requires internet service it will either connect to the last WiFi network used, or if that network is not available it will list all available networks in range. You can simply tap on the network you wish to join and it will connect. If the network requires a password it will show a lock icon. If no Wifi networks are available your iPhone will connect over the cellular data network and fees may apply.

To see all the Wi-Fi networks in range, from the Home screen choose Settings > Wi-Fi. Tap a network to join it.

How we connect internet to iphone

The iPhone can connect to the internet through both Wi-Fi and EDGE. Wi-Fi would be the wireless network at your home or business. When the iPhone connects to the internet through EDGE, it is actually connecting through the AT&T phone connection (or any other service provider the iPhone works with in the future).
safari.jpgTo the connect to the internet, you simply need to open up Safari (which is the internet browser used by the iPhone). If you're used to using a pc, think of Safari as the 'Internet Explorer' that the iPhone uses. You can use Safari the same way you could use Internet Explorer.
Once you open up Safari, the iPhone will attempt to connect to the internet. If there are wireless networks available wherever you happen to be, the iPhone will prompt you to choose one to connect to. If you're trying to connect to a network that has security, you will be prompted to enter the password for the network.
If you want to check to see whether there is a wireless network available where you live, work, or play, go to 'Settings' and then 'Wi-Fi'. The iPhone will show you all of the wireless networks that are available.
If there aren't any wireless networks to connect to, iPhone will connect to the internet over EDGE. Connection speeds over EDGE will likely be somewhat slower than they would be over a Wi-Fi network. You will also not be able to answer phone calls while connected to the internet through EDGE. If the iPhone is connected to the internet over EDGE you will see this small icon at the top of your screen: edge-icon.jpg

I am not able to connect my iphone to my home wifi (which uses dlink-DIR 615). I am able to connect my iphone with other unsecured wireless networks. But, mine is a secured one (WPA). Do I have to change...

No, just like when you set up a wireless connection for the first time with a home network, you need to input the network key. As long as you have the key handy, it should work!! For example, when I connect my iPhone to home network, I see my network name "553c" and I "touch" that and it asks what kind of security it has (unless this has changed, my iPhone is 1st generation) so I pick WEP (you will pick WPA of course : ) )and then it prompts for the network key. Hope this helps!!

I only have two bars on my wireless network and would like get a better connection. I would like to surf channels to see if i can get better reception

Try placing the router closer to the center of the house, and in a higher area, and away from cordless phones, and high voltage wiring.

When i select my Linksys WiFi connection on my Iphone I still has the "E" edge symbol on my Status bar even though wifi is selected.

You can tell iPhone is connected to the Internet over a cellular data network if you see ht1695_utms_onb.png,ht1695_3b.jpg or ht1695_gprs_onb.png in the status bar at the top of the screen.

Do you have problems connecting to any other wireless network with your iPhone?

Have you tried using the forget this network option on your iPhone for your wireless network followed by trying to connect to the network again, and/or using the reset network settings option on your iPhone which erases all previously saved wi-fi connections that you have successfully connected to with your iPhone?
Let me know....

Bad connection

Hi i'm ryan, To play online you will need to be close to a wifi location. If you have the internet you will need a wireless router to connect the PSP to. I just recently got a wireless router and since its in the house i have 100% signal connection. If you are using a wifi that you are picking up that is not yours the signal might be weak, or interupted and you will loose connection.

Cannot get 2wire to work on my iphone! :(

Try this one:

>on ur WIFI networks, click "other..."
>then manually type in ur network name (if its set to default, it should be 2WIRE and the last 3 digits of ur SN. It is case sensitive so type the name exactly how it looks like.)
>make sure that the setting is set to WEP
>on the password box, enter a dollar sign/$ first and then the 10 digit code under ur 2wire

keep me posted on this one

Cannot connect IPhone to 2wire :( HELP!

I had this exact same frustrating problem. The problem was a simple password issue. Although I had changed the password on the modem to my own personal one, that password only affected the administrator settings. When I used this particular password on my iphone it would put the checkmark next to the 2wire, but I would not get the wifi symbol at the top of the screen. I fixed the problem by using the 10-digit password supplied on the actual router instead. I told my iphone to 'forget' the network, then reselected it and when it requested my password I typed in the 10 digit number and 'presto,' i had wifi symbology! I hope this helps.

IPhone not pickign up wireless network...

You are right: the phone should default to the wireless. How do you know the iPhone is on your WIFI? Go to "settings, WIFI Networks" and see if there is an IP address assigned by your router. You can't from the icons alone.
