Games lock up on strange screen

Hi! I have an Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT 256 MB PCIE graphics processor. I've had my computer for years, no problem. But recently, when playing games (Titan Quest, Left 4 Dead, and Mount & Blade), I'm getting the same problem. The screen flickers, alternating with an image that has color, but nothing beyond somewhat geometric shapes. Not quite 'undefined data', but strange. Eventually, the computer locks up, and my screen becomes frozen with the 'strange data'. Going online is fine, youtube is fine...just can't play games. I've virus scanned, I've cleaned my registry, I've deleted some stuff...but the problem remains, and these are all games I've played many times in the past with no difficulty.

Hi there,
well if you' ve seen frequent flickering in your screen this is the sign of there's problem on your video card and sometimes at the middle of game or doing work at computer you will be hang, try to clean your video card it could be keep your screen smooth and recover the quality of graphics, how to clean your video card, unplug power supply unit, open your pc cover, disconnect vga cable from video card, pull out your video card, scrub the multi slotted terminal by eraser head of pencil both side, then put it back video card and vga connection,if the screen has good quality after cleaning and persist again the symton of flickering, replace your video card.have a nice day, rate my fix, thank a lot.

I am having problems with my nvidia geforce 6800 gt. When i turn on my pc everything is fine but whenever i play games for ex. Bioshock or counter strike source my pc screan turns off and says no signal....

i suspect youyr graphics card is heating up and shutting off to prevent damage. windows will also shut it off but usually repaorts that it did. here is my reccomendation:
1. open side case and place a fan right nest to it. if this makes it work then heat is definitely trhe culprit. if so install a video card cooler or another exhaust fan.
2 turn all the graphics options down on the game. shut anti aliasing off and all options to minimun. then try to play if it still shuts off then your card may be on its last leg from over heating. the 6800 gt was ok when it came out but todays games require more. in fact the newer games won't run on a 6800 gt.
the big thing is heat. the standard 6800 gt just doesn't get rid of enough heat. in fact the 9800 gt i had overheated and burned out. i stay away from gt and now use gtx cards. they have a better cooler and ususally the vent outside of the case.

My nvidia card is not working...Failure with the driver

You should download and install this driver instead for your 6800:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_185.85_whql.html

That should take care of your problem.

No signal on screen after install the new VGA card

No, you dont need any power to the Graphics card.

But make sure that the monitor is connected to the new graphics card that you have installed and not on the on-board VGA card. That should do it for you !

GeForce FX 6800 Graphic... Problem

Hi,
you should look for updated drivers - www.nvidia.com
If the problem persists, it might suggest a hardware problem.
It is a good idea to test the card in another machine and see if the same problem happens.(maybe in your friends computer ?)

Is my Motherboard compatible?

Probably not. There is not quite enough information in your post to really help, but from what I'm finding on the GeForce 6800 GT, it is only available in PCI-Express and AGP 8x (AGP3.0) Versions. Your motherboard only supports AGP 1x, 2x and 4x (AGP2.0) cards.
