Have thin line of picture on right side of screen, rest is blank. Sound is fine

Hi,

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.
Check the cables, connectors and connections.
Take it to a repair shop.

It sounds like you have a bad capacitor on the power supply or other boards. These will heat up over time and eventually swell and probably vent which will cause you this issue. The bad news is you need to get into the set and be able to solder to change them. The good news is they are easy to spot because they will be swelled up and not look like a cylinder or have a goo leaking from them.

If you happen to know enough to change these you can find kits online to replace all the easy components. NOTE: You have to use low ESR High temp capacitors on these because they get hot and won't run the delicate digital processes without producing very clean filtering(which is what usually causes lines like this... Dirty filtering of power)

Hope that helps!

32" sylvania TV thin line

There are bad solder connections on the vertical IC. This is a small flat IC attached to a heat sink. It should have about 9-11 pins and may be marked LA7837 or something similar. Resolder the pins on this IC and that should resolve the problem.

Vertical, pencil-thin blue line appears after 10 minutes of viewing (any source)

I would suspect a connection breaking down as the set heats up. A shop will probably have to put the set in a stand to hold it while they check for loose connections or defective components inside. Not a DIY job by any means. If this line went completely through the picture either vertically or horizontally and stayed there then this would have indicated a failure in the Panel itself. A thin Line any where on the screen consisting of one pixel in width is a Panel Failure according to Hitachi.
