Question about Kenmore Washing Machines

Open Question

Kenmore coin operated washing machine water saving tab location

I have a Sears Kenmore coin operated washing machine model #82407130 and serial # CE0630456. Under the top keyed portal it says: "To save water: pull out tab on water level switch located in console."
I can't find the water level switch. Any suggestions?
Thank you,
Scott Carlson

SOURCE: kenmore washing machine will not stop walking

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

If you look at the section on "Machine Base Parts" you'll see a number of springs and vibration pads.

It's possible that one or more of the springs or pads has come loose or broken.

In order to get to them you have to remove the cabinet.

Here is a description of how to do it.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=131&osCsid=90fdc122f6335c7c64f46f2ea1b1c887

Also see the Whirlpool Service Manual for top load washers. It has a troubleshooting section that describes the reasons for excessive walking or vibration.

http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/assets/pdfs/literature/Repair%20Part%20List%20-%20W10114743.pdf

If it's not the springs or pads, you may consider that the "Agitator Cams" in the transmission are not raising the Agitator Gear high enough (about 1/16" ) when the washer goes into spin mode.

See the description of what the Cams do in the Service Manual.

We had the same problem, excessive vibration and noise during the spin cycle.

In order to solve that problem, :

Assuming that you know how to remove the cabinet, agitator (you don't need to remove the tub), pump, motor and transmission the agitator cam and follower use the same whirlpool part number 62580/01. This is a plastic set used to raise the agitate gear on the shaft.

Pull the transmission.

Remove the clutch (the spring holding the clutch to the spin pinion is a bear to replace.

Remove the 8 transmission screws carefully, the transmission is full (15 oz.) of 80-90 weight oil.

Remove the transmission cover.

Pull off the spin pinion.

Push down on the agitate spring and remove the spring clip. Note where is attaches to the main shaft.

The two plastic agitate cam parts pull right off. Don't lose the washer on top of the cams.

Replace the cams, washer, spring and clip, pinion, oil (assuming you drained the oil first), cover and clutch parts.

Line up the transmission so that the release cam on the brake drum will snap onto the clutch spring retaining clip and put all parts back in the washer.

The basic tools are screwdriver, small socket set with up to a 1/2" socket, vice grips or good pliers (to remove and replace clips)

It sounds a bit complicated but it really isn't too bad and (For a $15 part, saved buying a $170 transmission.)

Following is the Whirlpool parts list for their commercial washers although the consumer models use the same part numbers.

Washer pump makes a clicking sound and is not pumping water fast enough before spin cycle, witch spills the water that was not pumped out. could the pump hve somthing blocking it ,or is the pump strti

Hi, there is most likely a blockage. Common is the coin blockage, locate the drain pipe and disconnect from area nearest to pump, usually has clamp fastening on either side of pump, disconnect both sides and check for foreign objects. Important*** disconnect machine from main current supply before working to avoid a shocking experience***. Hope this helps.

Coins in drain pump on washing machine. Coins can be seen through plastic drum of washer, how do i get them out/

Without your model number this is a stab in the dark.. for a front loading HE machine. Look at the lower panel of the washer. It should have 2 tabs that you can relase with a putty or butter knife. Open the panel... then locate the white or black flat faced filter. Rotate the filter 90 Deg CCW.... knowing full well this is going to make a water mess. Be prepaired.... cake pan works great! Then pull the filter out and remove the coins. Make sure your reach back inside with your fingers to ensure there is noting on the pump impeller blades. Once clean... reinstall the filter by pressing it straight in.. then thruning it 90 deg clockwise to LOCK it in place. Leak test!!!!!! Close panel and use normally.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

I have coins under the basket of my kenmore elite oasis he model 2806 how do remove the basket?

See the following Whirlpool Service Manual for their Cabrio washer. The Sears / Kenmore Oasis is basically the same machine so the procedures for pulling the basket should be the same.

Water not hot on hot temperature setting

BS ....on the back inside the washer are two solenoid operated valves that control the hot and cold water flow. your hot valve has ceased to function...and needs replacement.  also make sure your hot water valve is open fully and that the screen inside it isn't clogged.

Kenmore Washing Machine

Your leak may be at the pump as these will eventually have failed seals and need replacement. They aren't too hard to find, with the back panel removed, look for a roundish plastic device with several hoses attached.
You can get the part number from the Sears parts 'store' via an illustrated breakdown of your machine and order it from them or, if you have a Johnstone Supply store in your area, you can save a few dollars getting it there.
