Question about IBM ThinkPad T30 2366 Notebook

1 Answer

Have an IBM ThinkPad T30 2366 Notebook. Windows boots up. I do the normal Ctrl-Alt-Del and then presented with Windows login screen. My problem is that 1 letter on each row of the keyboard does not work and I can't log in as my password contains one of the 3 letters. (3 letters are Q A Z). All other keys work fine, just those 3. When I select them, nothing happens. Any idea?

Hi there.
Keyboards tend to do this from time to time, and is quite common.
You can use a USB keyboard to access your PC until you have a replacement keyboard for the laptop.
If the USB keyboard is not recognized hit F2 (on start up), enter the bios and set it to defaults, save the changes and exit, the computer will restart and you should be able to use a USB keyboard to access your account.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

After I pwr up my Thinkpad T42 laptop, windows start up and ctrl/alt/del screen comes up. When pressed there is no response. It also appears the keypad is not working when keys are pressed.

Maybe your Keyboard is defective.

To check, plug an external keyboard on your laptop.

If it's working then you should see a laptop technician for the part replacement.

Turned on an old computer and was locked out because i forgot the password. what should i do now

Friend,
There is nothing you can do about forgotten password. You expected it to keep others out who did not know thw password. Now you too are included. Isnt Windows powerfully safe. Only way out is to reinstall Windows. To save your data you must install it in a folder other than Windows.

No password

1) Hit Ctrl + Alt + Del twice at the welcome screen. Type Administrator for the username, then try a blank password to log in.

2) Download the Ophcrack LiveCD, boot the laptop off it and it will crack the password for you.
