Question about Frigidaire FRS26F4C Side by Side Refrigerator

Freezer not working properly

The freezer on my Frigidaire model# FRS26F4CP0 keeps melting the ice, but then it will refreeze after a while. Could this be something to do with the auto defrost parts?

Why would ice keep building-up on back medal in the freezer on Model FRT22INLHC1

Thank you for your post, Richard Mayle!

I understand that your Frigidaire refrigerator is building up ice on the back of the freezer. It sounds like a potential air leak causing condensation. You can test the gasket around your freezer using a one dollar bill. Place the bill between the freezer and close the door, then tug on the bill if you get some resistance then the gasket is good. If the bill slides out then you should change the gasket. If you continue to experience an issue with your freezer building ice I would recommend having a professional technician out to your home to proper diagnosis and repair. Hope this information is helpful. -Matt

Sometimes the ice melts then refreezes. Make sure the button is depressed. Or open the door, tape newspaper across the freezer section to keep the cold air in, leaving the door exposed to room temperature will allow it to thaw. Or speed it up by using a blow dryer to thaw it.

Model #PSS26PSSA SS Freezer frequently defrosts and refreezes. When this occurs, the entire ice bin melts into the freezer compartment and refreezes in puddles. Is this a common issue with this model and...

Absolutely not ! There are two types of defrost systems - timer (which relies on compressor run time) and adaptive (newer models) which relies on sensors and an electronic control and will defrost as needed...... During a defrost cycle your comrpessor and evap fan should be off, everything off - and no, a defrost cycle will NOT thaw your food in the freezer, not even your ice should melt ! To me this sounds like a defrost control problem - First thing service should check is your defrost timer and its components (control board, limiter, defrost thermostat, etc.) something is definately wrong.

Now with the advice above I am assuming that before the defrost cycle kicks in your freezer temp was in the normal range 10F and colder (0F is optimal) and refrigerator section cooler than 40F (optimal 34F). If so, then you should not have melting ICE in your freezer.

Frigidaire bottom freezer building up ice. Where

Your evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help.
Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the lower back of the freezer.

The bottom of my frigidaire is not cooling properly; and the freezer works great; is it a minor problem i can fix

you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

WATER IN BOTTOM OF FREEZER/TURNS TO ICE FRS28XGCB

its probably the automatic defrost cycle.there should be a drain in the bottom of your freezer, and it must be clogged. The automatic defrost keeps ice from building up in your freezer by melting it,and letting the water run out the drain. If the drain is blocked by something or clogged the water collects, and refreezes. You need to unblock the drain.
