Question about Mr. Coffee TFTX85 Coffee Maker

Draws about one cup of water then turns off

My Mr. Coffee TFTX85 coffee maker is about two months old.  About two weeks ago it started turning off after only drawing about one cup of water from the water well.  I turn it back on and it smokes a lot and makes loud perking sounds, then turns off again.  I clean it and it works one time then returns to the same problem.  This is an expensive appliance and only worked for about two months.  Where is this product made?

We have the exact same problem. We have to run it three times to get a full pot of coffee and have no clue how to fix it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have the same issue.  The pot starts to perk, but then seems to turn the remaining water into steam.  It makes a constant bubbling sound, but does not perk.

Same happening here.. "coffee" that does drip through tastes like burned water. Terrible. Only 4 months old. Very Disapointed.

I was getting this too. I checked the manual and it recommended decalcifying the machine to clean out the mineral deposits that collect from the water used. I gave it a try, just using vinegar and following the instructions.

So far it's working great, I suppose it makes sense because I was worried there was a problem with the pump that it wasn't able to **** all the water out of the reservoir. But if the tubes are obstructed due to mineral deposits, it is too hard to get all the water and so shuts off thinking there isn't any left. You can find the manuals online @ http://www.mrcoffee.com/InstructionManuals.aspx

Good luck!

I'm h ing the exact same problem. Ive only had it one month. It sometimes works but mostly just steams the water out the top. I need my coffee and I'm annoyed it already not working.

It is probily the thermal switch between hot wire and element. Check to see if you are getting power through this switch.

Coffee won't brew - lights turn on - clock works - clicks little.

2 years old I would pitch and buy a new one.

Cleaning generally won't help a machine that does not work.
Heating element has probably burned out.
(I am not talking about the heating pad for the carafe!)

For future reference for all the coffee drinkers out there:
Simple quick way to clean a drip coffee maker is use Vinegar.
Let it brew through the system as you would water.
Discard and run fresh water through the system to clear out the vinegar residue left behind. (Make SURE the system has cooled first before running the fresh water through!)

For those that have hard water and the coffee tastes funny.
Try a small pinch of salt in the filter basket ON top of the coffee grounds. This will soften the water and hopefully take the bitter taste away.

Guess it is possible large enough calcium deposits could block the hole in the holding tank to prevent the water from percolating to the filter basket. You may wish to check this before tossing. Last minute thought before pushing the post button.

Good luck!

I despise the TFTX85!!! It will overflow, it will stop working! It will never tell you the correct time! It is evil in a coffeemaker. Check out our problems with this piece of junk at pisymphony.com ( opinions)
