Canon i850 When I try to print an all black text I get nothing. I checkedthe ink supply and there is plenty of black ink as though it had neverbeen used. (I have used the printer only for photospreviously.) Nozzle check is okay. Both color patterns andblack patterns printed okay. But when I try to print a textdocument the paper is blank. Print quality is set on"custom". Media = Plain Paper. Fast print all-black text ischecked. Nothing is printed.

Re: Canon i850

Hello  btfsplk,

Me is Vikram Kumar Thumu from India-Hyderabad. I have seen your message and issue on this issue. I would like to provide my suggestions on this issue.

Generally, this issue could happen if the Port selected that is Printer Properties  is not same as the Port connected to the Computer or Notebook, if this is the case the Printer starts Printing Blank pages from Computer . The issue could also happen if the Printer software is corrupted.

To resolve the issue I recommend you to check and try out below options:

1. try to restart the Print Spooler.

2. Make sure that you selected the correct port in the Ports tab of the Printer Properties.

Example: If your Printer uses USB cable to connect the Computer, then make sure that it is USB001 or USB002 is selected in the Ports tab of Printer properties.

Note:  Make sure that Printer is connected to the USB ports of Computer at Rear End and not in front end. Since, front end USB ports in Desktop Computer are meant for USB flash Drive or other USB devices and not for connecting Printers.

Well, I need much more information of your computer so that I can help you further steps of troubleshooting.

So please let me know below information:

1. Version of Operating System that you are using on your Computer.

2. Please let me know the Printer Model number and Serial number along with Manufacturer.

3. Did you receive any other error messages on this issue?

4. Please let me know cable type ( USB/Parallel) that you are using to connect Printer to the Computer.

Please mail the information at, I'll be glad to help you with further information on this issue.

Bye .

My Canon Pixma ip6000d isn't printing any images or text. There is plenty of black ink, I ran the tests for alignment and nozzle check. The paper feeds through fine and it sounds and acts as tho

Did you try a test print. Most printers have a option to set the ink color, this is done when your computer asks you if you want to print. Look for an options tab and search for ink color options pick black only and try a test print. The test print is done on printer set up. If all else fails try the manual it usually has a troubleshoot section. Oh yes make sure you have the correct usb port some are configured at a lower level ( mine has 2 different ones a 2.0 and a 3.0 the 3.0 is blue when you look inside of it) my 2.0 port wouldn't set up my printer I had to use the 3.0 port. Hope it helps you some!

My i850 printer has not been used for several years. I just tried to use it on a MacPro running OSX 10.5. It will not print black text but does print black test patterns (though often with vertical lines)....

The issue is your heads are dried up. Did you store the printer with ink cartridges installed? What tends to happen from prolonged periods of no use is the ink dries and hardens just under where the cartridge is seated.

You can try taking a Q-Tip with some rubbing Alcohol and clean the heads. You need to be very careful not to push down to hard or let the cotton get pulled into the head area.

Another option is to get a new printer - I've seen them as low as 35 bucks at Target

Faded text every few lines- Canon printer

When you print photos you print in Max dpi, for this no faded lines anywhere. Probably you have a problem only in black color in print head.
Мay be it's partially clogged or partially defective.

I have problems aligning printer heads on my Canon i850. I have clean the printer heads, replaced cartdridges, re-aligned them, but I still get lines through the printed material (phots mostly). No...

Please try to uninstall and reinstall your printer.

Clean your printer heads.

Perform a hard reset to your printer.

Print a test page.

Try using a different bond paper.

Make sure you are using original canon cartridge

If still you get an error. Replace your printer heads.

Canon i850 printing but pages are blank

I had the same problem after changing the black ink cartridge. I went to Control Panel of my computer, chose Printers, then Canon Inkjet. Chose Properties, then Maintenance, the Deep Cleaning. NOW my printer is working!!

My printer only prints pictures, no text.

Sounds like your black pigment (PGBK-5) cartridge has clogged up the printhead or similar.

You could try running a single Deep clean on the that colour alone (use Right click printer > printing preferences > maintenance tab > Deep Cleaning)

If that doesn't work you will probably need to either:
- clean the printhead (see this thread)
- replace the printhead/cartridge

Hope that helps.

Printer will not print black ink

Chewbacca08's solution gave me an idea. I set the print setting to photos paper (even though I was trying to print on plain paper) and IT WORKED. It's worth a shot before you trash a perfectly good printer.
