The video output will automatically switch to the data projector first when you power up the data projector first and then boot up the laptop.
When you power up the laptop first you can toggle the Windows image between the LCD screen and the video port/data projector by pressing the Fn key plus the F4 key. Pressing these keys each time will switch the display from LCD screen to video port only, to both LCD screen and video port, and back to LCD screen only.

I cannot start my e-Machines 350-21G16i netbook. I`m being told that the following file is either missing or corrupt: "<Windows root >\system32\hal.dll" "Please re-install...

HAL.dll is a critical file of Windows - it's the only file that connects Windows with the hardware. This message appears when this file is either missing or not where it's supposed to be. Just 2 things can cause that: a failure of the hard disk or a severe Windows corruption. This in turn can be caused by 2 things : a serious virus infection(usually) or a really bad program that was running just before this message appeared.
The best way to fix this is to perform a full reinstall and then add only the absolute necessary programs. If the problem returns quickly then the hard disk is dying and you will have to replace it.

Hi,

Try lowering your laptop's screen resolution and refresh rates to the lowest possible.

Additionally, you need to press Fn + F? keys on the laptop to cycle on laptop display, laptop display + external; display, external display.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

We are tring to hook up our projector to our laptop.

Nice! Putting your *generic* laptop on a *generic* projector can look awesome for movies, gaming or just surfing. It all depends on the connection you use.

To make the connection, you need to choose a cable that both the *generic* laptop and the *generic* projector support. Here's the common ones, in order of awesome (most to least):
HDMI,
DVI,
RGB/VGA,
Component,
S-Video,
Composite

Of course, with adapters you can basically connect any of these types into any other type.

So now you've connected them both, but there's no picture! Don't fret; there's still more to do. First, make sure the *generic* projector is on the right input channel. Use your remote or the buttons on the *generic* projector itself to turn to it.

Then you have to set up the *generic* laptop. Many different laptops these days will let you just press the "FN" key along with the "F5" key to switch to projector mode. Pressing it again will switch which type of mode it's in (duplicate, extend or projector only). You can also do this in your computer settings, though.

On Windows 7:
"Windows Key" + "P".
-or-
Start Menu > Control Panel. If Control Panel is in Classic View, go to Display > Adjust Resolution(it's on the left side toolbar). Otherwise, click on "Adjust Screen Resolution" under the Appearances and Personalization category. Click on the second monitor, then make a selection from the "Multiple Displays" option.

On Windows Vista:
Start Menu > Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Personalization > Display Settings > Monitor (it's a tab). Select the second display from the Display drop-down menu then check the box for "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor"

On Windows XP:
Right-click the desktop > Properties > Settings (it's a tab). Select the second display from the Display drop-down menu, then check the box for "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor"

On Mac:
It's already set up! Seriously, it's plug and play; very awesome. To change the mode (mirroring/duplicate, extended), goto Display Preferences > Arrangement.

On Linux:
I have no idea, so I Googled it for you. You're welcome.

There! Your *generic* laptop is now connected to your *generic* projector. Enjoy your gaming/videos/web browsing/etc!

How to install windows xp in cq45-112au model ?

Hey, yeah i tried the same thing when I got a similar new laptop. I'm not sure if there are drivers, honestly, I could not get it working or find any either.
Then I downloaded Mandriva Linux, and pretty much everything is working great.

Besides, MS is discontinuing service and updates for XP around the end of the month, permanently.

best practice it when installing windows and linux install windows first and then linux. GRUB or LILO boot loader is much better then windows boot loader and very easy to reinstall. Mandriva cd should have a rescure feature that will allow you to reinstall the boot loader.
