Over heat and shut down

My ep758 by optoma will begin to over heat and shut down. I have cleaned the unit and the fans are working fine. On start up the optoma logo is clean and looks ok. I have a new bulb - lamp but I dont want to replace that if it is the problem.
How do I set the projector back to factory settings.

lastly - I live in Ionia michigan. I may need a thrid party to repair if I can't get it done

thanks Lionel

I had a similar problem with mine. I just put a fan on it, and that seemed to work...

It just needed more air flow and cooling...

When turning on the projector it shows the Optoma logo but will not boot to the home screen. Is there a way to reload the home screen software?

Depends on the model. If you saw a little fan, then there is a fan problem. There might be 3 fans. 2 square ones and one blower fan. Look for plugs with 3 wires(red/white/black or red/yellow/black). Those will lead to the fans from the mainboard. Occasionally the fan will spin but the tachometer lead will stop reporting the fan status and the projector shuts down. To being with I would clean out the projector fans and ducts thoroughly. That may clear up the issue. Otherwise there is a button press sequence to enable the service menu, but you cannot upload new firmware without special optoma software that isnt available. Another possibility is you have failing filter capacitors in the power supply. Be careful poking around under the hood. There is lethal high voltage possibly stored even when unplugged.

if the lamp, lamp driver, power supply,Scaler Board and Formatter Board were good.

Optoma EP7155 gets very hot and shuts down.

Hi

Possible filter problem since its overheating. clean up filters and make sure that you use projector in an open area so air can cool it off while running.

Hope this helps

Cooling fan problem projector

I have a similar issue though mine isn't quite as extreme as yours. Got a couple things you can do.

1. clean out the projector with compressed air. You might have dust building up on components that is trapping heat.

2. Your fan might be burning out. Needs to be replaced. I'm still working on trying to figure out what tipe of fan it needs.

3. The temperature sensor might be going bad. This one is less likely and most complex to solve as it depends on how the system measures the temp. I haven't checked in detail yet.

4. Replace the whole unit or send it in for repair. Both options will be costly...

ALSO CHECK YOUR FAN. IF THE FAN OR A HEAT SINK IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY (I.E. THE FAN MAY JUST NEED TO BE CLEANED OR REPLACED, THERE SHOULD BE A SMALL HEAT SINK. IF CLOUDED W/DUST, IT WILL KEEP THE OPERATION SHORT). ALSO CHECK IF YOU HAVE SET ANY TEMPERATURE SHUTDOWN PARAMETERS. IF YOUR LAMP HEATS UP FOR SO LONG AND REACHES A TEMPERATURE THAT WILL AFFECT THE CIRCUITS, THIS OF COURSE WILL SHUT DOWN YOUR UNIT UNEXPECTEDLY. HOPE THIS HELPS...JGUAM

Overheating?

Hey,

I think it's the cooling... Because when i let it cool down after it shuts down for like a few minutes I can boot it back up. But if i try to boot it up right after it shuts down it won't let me. I think it has a built in temperature monitor to make sure it doesn't overheat. I'm going to install some computer fans on the vents of the projector to get some more airflow. Hopefully that will do the trick.

Optoma H56 - turns off just after start up.

It's not a short, the blub is near the end of it's life ~ the optoma is designed to detect when the blub is about to blow and shuts itself down. Turning the projector upside down or right side up usually only gives you a brief reprieve (some have reported a modest amount of extra time gained) on the blub ~ but in the end it's on it's way out and the projector will shut down again.
