Computer doesn't recognise memory stick pro duo 4gb

Hello Guys,

The computer sometimes doesn't recognize the memory stick device due to corruption, there are numerous causes for memory stick corruption for example virus attack, improper removal, wrong usage of the memory stick device and many more. After such corruption scenario data are lost from these devices, but luckily you can recover memory stick files by using an efficient recovery application like Yodot Photo Recovery. Apart from memory stick the tool also recovers files from all other devices like memory stick, hard disk, iPods, music players etc. Try using this tool to recover your data from memory stick

I keep having the message "windows was unable to complete the format" for a sony 4gb usb drive

Try this steps:

1. Connect your flash drive to your system. Right click on My Computer from the desktop and choose manage.

2. Next click on Device Manager then expand out Disk Drives. USB drive will be listed as "Generic USB 2.0 USB Drive" or something similar.

3. Right-click on the USB drive under Disk Drives and select Properties. Then go to the Policies tab.

4. Now you will see two options, "Optimize for quick removal" selected by default. Then go ahead and change by choosing the "Optimize for performance" option. This will enables writing caching on the drive and will allow you to format it as NTFS.

5. Now click OK and go to My Computer. Right click on the drive in My Computer and choose Format. In the File System drop down you will now see the option for NTFS.

You can now secure your Flash drive.

When I put my DaneElec 4GB USB Drive into my USB port, nothing happens. We have Vista.

Do other USB devices work when you plug them in the USB port?
If they don't then you have a faulty USB port otherwise the DaneElec is faulty or needs formatting.

You need to format the external drive. Format the drive as primary drive and in FAT32. (FAT32 will allow data to be exchanged between MACs and PCs).

Sounds like it was improperly ejected with power on to it and has "flashed" the drive improperly. Time to get a new one.
