Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

My 1/2 hp Chamberlain garage door stops while going down even when I am holding the wall unit. If I stop it and restart it goes a little further and then stops. Both sensors have green lights and they are not blinking. I have checked and they appear aligned. Help!!

It doesn't matter if I am using the remote or the wall unit. After I push the wall unit or remote, the door will go about 12 inches down, stop and then go back up. No lights flash. We had that problem with the door not going down unless holding hte wall unit and lights would flash in the winter. It ended up being a sensor issue. This time, the lights do not flash, it just stops and heads back up. If I push it again and then again and hold, it will go a little further and then stop and head back up. But at no time during this do the lights flash and I can keep it from going all the way back up to the open position. I hope this helps because this is really become annoying :-)

Thanks...I will give it a try.

Increasing the down force control 1/4 turn worked great and the door goes down all on its own now. However, when it gets all the way down, it starts back up. ?? I'm sure something else needs adjusted what I don't just want to start turning things.

Does the door just stop when using your remote or does it stop and reverse to the open position? Does the main light flash 10 times?

On the back of the motor unit you will find the down force control. You may have to remove a light lens depending on your model. Increase this a 1/4 turn and try.

The door may need to have the tracks cleaned and/or the rollers lubricated. If the door binds it requires excessive downforce to get it to lower. Minimizing the force will aleviate the problem. Try this as a test: disengage the lift arm and raise/lower the door manually. Does it work freely or does it seem to bind? Again correct any cause for binding, if it's difficult for you, it's difficult for the opener.

You need to check the door springs to see if one is broken and also remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear. The gear is white nylon and will be very obvious if it is bad. The part number is 41A2817 and is available at any good door service company. It will come with instructions.

Check your door sensors. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. Tweak them a little. If you cannot get both lights to come on you have a bad sensor.

You may have a bad wall control. Try disconnecting it from the opener and try. Otherwise it is time for a new model.

My garage door will not stay down when I try to close it.

IF THE DOOR CLOSES ALL THE WAY WHEN HOLDING DOWN THE WALL BUTTON AND REVERSES 6" FROM THE FLOOR WHEN NOT HOLDING THE BUTTON.
I WOULD GUESS THAT THE SAFETY EYES ARE MOUNTED ON THE TRACK.
WHEN THE DOOR CLOSES THE TRACK AT THE BOTTOM IS TOO TIGHT CAUSING IT TO FLEX AS THE DOOR GETS NEAR THE BOTTOM. WHEN THE TRACK FLEXES THE EYES ARE POINTING FURTHER AWAY FROM THE DOOR AND EVENTUALLY THEY ARE TOO FAR OUT OF ALINMENT AND THE LED WILL GO OFF - THE DOOR GOES BACK UP.

SOLUTION: YOU CAN USE THE CLAW END OF A HAMMER TO TAP THE TRACK OUT A LITTLE WIDER - TAP NEXT TO THE WALL ON THE BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE TRACK TO THE WALL. MOVE THEM ABOUT 1/4" EACH SIDE.

OR

YOU CAN MOUNT THE BRACKETS TO THE WALL OR THE FLOOR.

THIS SHOULD SOLVE IT

HAVE A GREAT DAY

My garage door opener doesnt close all the way.

The motor is probably either stalling because the door is too stiff, or you have a beam break detector that is being triggered when the door is halfway down.
