i play halo alot on my xbox 360 and sometimes and not verry often comes up saying (when i satart the game up and go on matchmaking) that i need to change the NAT settings to open instead of strict.

i have tried fiddling withg the router settings and xbox wireless settings and there is nothing there about NAT settings.

Hello --

Most NAT settings can be found, on modern routers, under the WAN setup of the router interface. Normally, it is set to Secured with the option of setting it to Open. Click Open and apply changes, giving the router a moment to reset the software and re-broadcast transmissions.

This comes secured for public consumption because the normal consumer would not create a WAN (wide access network) at home. However, gaming consoles (PS3 and Xbox 360) require this because of the P2P hosting that most online multiple-player games require. Setting it to Open full-duplexes the transmissions without restriction (since gaming console connections are "supposed" to be secure anyway).

After you've set the NAT settings, restart the gaming console, test the 'net connection and confirm it is reading your now Open NAT settings.

There is no UPNP setting, just make sure it's enabled in nthe router settings and then the router will open the ports required for the Xbox automatically, normally  port 3074 UDP

you said you were trying to change your settings, so i can only assume you are in the routers settings.

Open your web browser and type in 192.168.0.1 and then admin as the username and password as the password, unless you have altered it in the past, or if you are with Sky as your ISP, if so admin as username, sky as password.

Look in the keft hand menu, near to the bottom of the list and you will see UPnP, click on it and then select enable to automatically detect your x box360

XBOX Live & Netgear Router Help!!!!!!!!!!!

You need a excellent signal to your Xbox. Xbox requires a constant connection. My son as an Xbox and we had to run a wire connection to the Xbox no problems after that. Or you need to move your wireless router to the same room as your xbox to get a stronger connection.

Please rate my response.

NAt Settings

Are you sure that you are forwarding the correct ports? I also have xbox live, and it seems the closer my router is to my xbox, the better the NAT gets. (wierd) Honstly though, unless you are encountering some extreme lag, I wouldnt worry about it.

NAT set to strict

upgrade your router to the latest firmware that can be found here:
http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/WGR614.asp

after upgrading the firmware, press the reset button for 30 seconds, then reconfigure the router. you will need to re-enable upnp if it is disabled, and open up ports UDP 88 UDP 3074 TCP 3074. i would also reserve the ip for the xbox and if all else fails set the xbox as the dmz host.

hope this helps,
trin

Xbox 360 live and netgear WGR614

Down load the new firmware and install it in your router.

http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/WGR614.asp

Use UPnP. If your router supports this. Turn it on. The router will work out the ports it needs to open for Xbox live. If your router does not have this feature, check the manufacturers website for the latest firmware. (also make sure portforwarding and/or DMZ is turned off as they interfere with UPnP)

Your router should have UPNP in the settings, make sure this is enabled and the port will be automatically opened by the router for your xbox.
