Question about Eureka Smartvac 4870 Bagged Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

Vacuum turns on then off in a few seconds.

Vacuum turns on somewhat 'weakly' then stops. All tubes clear. Belt attached and in good shape. Filters clean. Is it the on/off button or the motor or something else?

Check the electrical connections at the switch and at the incomming power cable because they get moved about a lot the wires become broken inside the insulation or wire jacked. gentally pull on the wire to see if it has a rubber band stile action if so remake the conection. as for dirt in the switch use a tech cleaning spray ( super wash ) to clean out the dirt from the switch.

It runs but not pick up dirt in cup

Hello! If the dirt is not entering into the dirt cup this could mean there is a clog in the vacuum or a filter that needs to be cleaned or replaced. Check that the brushes are still spinning. The vacuum has a brush-roll shut-off pedal on the right side of the cleaner if you are standing behind it. Below are simple instructions for checking your vacuum for clogs.

1. Remove the dirt cup. Twist off the dirt cup lid.
2. Remove the filter cartridge from dirt cup.
3. Separate the foam and cartridge filters. Wash foam filter under running. Allow 24 hours to air dry outside the vacuum.
4. Tap the excess dirt out of Hepa filter. Hepa filter may also be washed. Allow 24 hours to air dry.
5. Check the secondary filter by removing the filter cover from base. Rinse the foam filter under running water until it runs clear. Allow 24 hours to air dry.
6. The red baffle tube inside of the dirt cup is apart of the filtration of the vacuum and needs to be cleaned as well. Twist out the baffle tube by turning 1/4 turn clockwise. Remove any hair or debris wrapped around baffle tube. Baffle tube can be rinsed if needed. Allow to dry thoroughly.
7. Remove the hose from both ends. Use a broom stick to loosen and remove any clogs from the main hose.
8. Remove the bottom plate and the brushes as instructed in the owner's manual. Use a wooden spoon or something similar to gently break up and remove any clogs from the lower hose.
9. Inspect the belt for damages, if the belt is broken replace the belt with a Genuine Hoover belt part 562633001 Flat Belt Nano Upright

If the filters are too dirty they may need to be replaced. With regular maintenance the filters should be replaced about once a year. Follow the links below to order replacement filters for your UH20020.

The brush stopped revolving. I don't see anything blocking. It sucked up a corner of a rug for a split second but didn't pull anything off of the rug, ie, nothing from the rug is in there. Do these have...

Although I do not share the exact same model that you have, there is a belt in the one I own.
Checking it was pretty easy as the unit comes apart in a simple manner.
I do not know how your unit comes apart but look for screws or screw holes that hold the area in question together and remove.
The belt for my unit is tiny and somewhat hidden near the edge of the unit. The brush was powered by the suction of the vacuum using small paddles that caught the wind. If your unit has this then make sure the belt is still attached and whatever is powering the belt is operating properly.
Good Luck hope this helps.

It stopped sucking @ brush stopped turning

Usually on this vacuum those two problems are not related, but if you got a lot of stuff stuck in the brushroll and in the suction tube at the same time it could happen. Check the belt to make sure it's not broken. If the vacuum is over a year old the belt should probably be replaced anyway, this can be expensive on some Dyson models. The first thing to check on suction is the filters. Most Dysons have two filters. The motor filter should be cleaned and thoroughly dried after each use. The exhaust filter should be replaced frequently, for most people once a year should do. If you do not clean and replace the filters often enough the suction will keep going down and down until there is not enough airflow to propel the dirt and debris through the vacuum into the dirt cup and it ends up getting stuck and clogging up the vacuum which can lead to expensive repairs.

Cleaning the filters

Hello,

There are 3 different filters on this particular model. Two of them are foam, and as washable, the 3rd is a HEPA filter that's located on the back and is not washable, but needs to be replaced once a year.

The most important filter, and the one that most people are not even aware of, is located directly underneath of the dirt cup. Directly under the dirt cup you'll see a black tray that says "pull". Pull this tray out, and you'll find a square shaped washable filter. Simply remove this filter and rinse it under water until it's clean. Make sure to let the filter completely air dry before reinstalling it in the vacuum and using the vacuum again.

The second foam filter is located directly above the dirt cup. Remove the dirt cup, and in the clear plastic housing that's directly above the dirt cup you'll find a circular colored plastic piece. Reach your hand up there, and unscrew this plastic part while pulling downward. You'll find a circular shaped filter that wraps around this plastic piece. This filter may also be washed the same way as the square shaped one, again just make sure that the filter is completely dry before using the vacuum again.

The HEPA filter is actually on the back of the vacuum in a grate that pull down to open it and remove it. This filter needs to be replaced only, and can not get wet.

The foam filters can be washed several times, but will sooner or later need to be replaced, as they will start to deteriorate after a few washings.

If you need to purchase these filters, here are direct links to all of the filters on your vacuum cleaner.

Hoover wind tunnel 2 bagless vacuum not working

Place handle in low position and turn cleaner over so bottom side is up.
Remove the 4 screws in bottom plate and lift off.
Look on the left side of the agitator brush. You should see the belt there. Remove agitator brush roll and used belt.
Discard belt.
With lettering on outside of belt, slide new belt over motor pulley.
Insert agitator though belt and place belt in belt guide on agitator.
Grasp agitator firmly and fit it onto position by first sliding end opposite the belt into the rectangular slot on side of cleaner.Pull other side of agitator into place
Turn agitator making sure belt is not pinched between agitator and agitator shield.
If this does not take care of your problem, then check your filters for dirt and your entire vacuum for blockages. Both filters do come out. If you can't get a new filter right away you can gently clean the paper filter and remove a lot of dirt. (I recommend outside)! The other filter is washable.
Make sure it is well dried before replacing.
Good luck.

I have a Dyson DC17 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum and it lost suction. How do I get it fixed? Also, is it possible to get a second filter for this machine?

OK. Lost suction almost always means blockage. You need to check all the pipework, the hose and any bits you can remove at the base of the machine - if I remember right, the DC17 has a sort of U shaped bend at the bottom of the handle that you can remove - also turn it over and inspect the clear flexible plastic tube (if it's not blocked, it can get damaged and leak). As for filters, you do of course need regularly to wash the filter that's above the cannister (wash both the blue sponge and the yellow carrier) and be sure they are dried gently for at least 12 hours before putting them back.  If you need new filters, any vacuum service shop should be able to supply them. I hope this helps. I value your feedback so please remember to rate my response.  Good luck!

No suction

Check the hose for clog, take it off if you can, drop something thru it to see if it comes out the other side. Check the dirt inlet by the brush roll to see if it is clear or clogged. Filters could be bad also. Is the brush turning under load ok? If not then replace the belt, they stretch after a short time.

Hoover fusion plus cyclonic upright vacuum

While I'm having a different problem, the problem you guys are experiencing can easily be fixed by cleaning the two internal filters. My vacuum did the same thing, just stopped running mid-stream. Remove the main filter cup. Look inside the cavity of the vacuum and you'll see a grey bar at the bottom of the cavity, pull this up and you'll find the first of two washable filters. Just rinse it under warm water squeezing as you rinse until the water runs clear. The roll the filter in a few paper towels or towel and unroll, reroll until completely dry - should only take a few minutes. Then, look in the same cavity except up top there is another filter which seems to be hidden. The back wall of the inside cavity will guide you to these filters as well. You will be amazed by the difference cleaning these will make in the suction power of your vacuum. Also, if you remove the belt cover and clean out the hose in this area it will improve suction as well. Hope this helps. Now, if I could just get the darn belt back on mine. First belt smoked and popped. Bought replacement belt, smoked and popped within seconds... HELP!!!

NO SUCTION ON FLOOR

Dear Thyagie, since you said the cleaning tool attachment is working,I guess that means the cleaning tool attachment still has suction" so theirs a good chance that there is a clog that needs to be cleared and you wont need a new vacuum at this time.

But you will need to try and trace the clog and clear it. I would start with the tube by the roller brush and work my way up from there !
Also check the roller brush and the belt and make sure it's working properly. If your vacuum has a filter make sure it is clean, and of course make sure the vacuum bag is not full.

I hope this helps,EarlsOK
