Laptop says that the driver is missing.

When booting up it takes about 15 min to get to the vista loading screen then immediately switches to an error screen telling me to shut down and restart. I tried to reinstall vista and Fdisk to XP but each time I do after it goes through the initial loading it says I have no drivers to support the system. How can i fix that? I didn't receive a backup disk of the drivers when i bought the laptop two christmas's ago.

If the computer was "new" and was shipped with Vista installed, the manufacturer probably "designed" the computer for Vista, and did not create/include device-drivers for Windows XP.
So, trying to install XP will not work.

So, insert the Microsoft Vista CD-ROM (the one shipped with the computer, not a CD-ROM purchased from a retail store, nor borrowed from a friend), and boot from it, and reinstall Vista.

What manufacturer/model of laptop? Some manufacturers will ship you a set of CDs/DVDs to replace the ones that were shipped with the new computer.

I bought lenovo G550 last week. It came with Windows Vista. I want to install Windows XP on it. I have found that lenovo has driver for windows XP so that will make my life easy :-) But when I try to...

you are most likely getting a BSOD with a stop error code of 0x0000007B which is caused by the Windows XP CD that you are using doesn't have the SATA Hard Drive controller driver needed to recognize and utilize the hard drive. If Lenovo has XP drivers for this model then they should have a SATA driver (roughly 394k) that will need to be loaded FROM A FLOPPY DISKETTE during the boot to XP. (XP Requires the driver to either be slipstreamed into the CD or loaded from a floppy diskette. Trying to load the controller driver USB or a different CD will not work)

Hello. I have a hp pavillion DV9000, 17" screen. I am having an issue with the computer "freezing" on the windows xp loading screen. When i originally got the laptop (bought used) it worked fine. But now...

Buy a registry cleaner and let it sort things out. If you changed operating systems, there are probably things left on that although they don't cause a conflict, cause a delay while being sorted. I use PA Tools, Registry Mechanic. This is just my personal preference. There are others that you may prefer.

I have a Dell-Inspiron Laptop 1526 I had my hard drive replace by Dell once this year already, when I turn on the computer it starts to work and then stop Running Vista my warranty was up Sept 3 2009 like...

Your trying to downgrade this means you have to use vista cd to format the hard driver, and after the laptop restart, load the Xp. Also sometimes this code comes if you donot use the original xp windows.

I take it you see the hard drive when you boot to vista cd. doing install can you remove partition and then create new partition format and install vista software. have you tried that if so sounds like your hard drive is working and can delete and reset drive partition index. if your crashing in post then you need to push the tab key when toshiba logo appears should switch showing post BIOS boot on screen all text you should try pressing the setup key as soon as you see the num loc light blink on your keyboard the driver is loaded press f2 then tab key to check post boot.
please let me if this helped you.

Acer 4720Z lost vista os

Most likely the hard drive went out, do you hear a clicking noise or loud ticking coming from the laptop?

Does it give you any kind of message like " NTLDR missing."?

Slow booting & shut down

the only thing I can sugust is remove norton 360 if you have this onboard and get other firewall and spyware and antivirus software.

and disable the sidebar with the widgets, and change desktop view from aero to clasic this will boost up loading and shutting down of laptop.

you can purschase vista, then download all drivers for laptop from manufactures and re-install from scratch.

good luck with problem
