Question about Office Equipment & Supplies
Printer doesn't give any error message---but won't print.
It sounds like your sensor, clean it with a dry cloth, then check to make sure you don't have too much paper in at one time thus preventing the stack from engaging the sensor. If still a problem, disconnect all wires including power and re try, it sounds like something is hung up, it is usually dirt. Then it isn't allowing the paper to fall low enough to be picked up by the printer.

SOURCE: Paper Out message
Make sure that you are loading it in the back and not the front, I didn't figure this out until I looked at the manual. If you're used to HPs then you want to load in the front, but actually if you look behind the scan door, there is a black panel that you can open, and that's where you feed the paper. That thing in the front is actually where the paper comes out of. Go figure.

SOURCE: paper mismatch
you have to load the printer driver for HP Deskjet 990c. This worked for me perfectly and I'm sitting here printing my wedding invites right now! Good luck!

disconnect the printer from the computer
do a manual paper feed
if it can feed paper, replace usb cable or try another usb port

Check the paper input well on the printer there might be some forgien object blocking the paper pickup rollers, especially if you have small children around they like to stik objects into the well, or maybe a paper clip or penny is lodged in the unit you might want to remove all paper and turn the printer towards the ground and shake gently to see if anything falls out.
Also open the paper jamm on the back of the printer to make sure no peices of paper is stuck.
