I stupidly put washing up liquid in my very old Bosch SPS 21/24 as i had run out of dishwasher tablets - a few bubbles leaked out but all seemd fine and now it makes all the right noises but nothing actually happens even if i manually turn the dial to move it on to the next stage- any hope??

Take a shop vac and remove all the water and suds.
No shop vac...use a towel or sponge.
Then use a pot to manually fill the dishwasher with cold water. Set it to wash a few seconds then go to pump out setting.
Re-fill with cold water and repeat this process until the normal sounds return and the washer is clear of suds.
HOT water will not work. It only makes the suds worse.
COLD water only.
Repeat repeat repeat ubtil clear.
