Question about RCA T13060GY Combo
We just bought a used one of these models without a remote to use as a kitchen tv. When I hooked it up to the satellite, all I get is a blue screen and when I try to manually change the channels, it won't go below channel 5 except to go to "Video1" and "Video2". It skips channel numbers, too when you scroll up and down. It's like they are preset, but I don't know how to clear them. Can you help me? Can't find an online manual to do this myself. Any idea where I could get one of those?
I had a similar trouble with a couple of tv sets, one was a Granada and the other a Sony, but once connected to the satellite or digi-box via the scart socket it seemed to concentrate it's mind and override all the channels - so the tv stops being a tv set but becomes a monitor displaying whatever analogue video signal the digi-box sends to it.
The channels should arrive from the satellite receiver/decoder box and that remote control is all you need and the only thing you need to touch the monitor tv for will be the volume...
Scart sockets and plugs are apt to become dirty and unreliable and are responsible for many problems, including once a blue screen.

I am sorry to have to tell you this, but the only way to change the recording speed is with an original remote. If you look on the original replacement remote link I posted here you will see the SP/EP selector, this is to change the recording speed. Good Luck. http://www.remotes.com/remotes/servlet/rs?a=gmi&smodel=DS13TVR90&brand_pn=FISHER_DS13TVR90&mode=large&uid=11755283300930

I'd first just hook up the DVD/VCR to the TV and get that working. I'm assuming all you need is the standard cable type connection. This will at least your 4 year old happy. Then you can experiment with the S cable. The S cable will give a cleaner signal from the DVD to the TV. then hook up audio and video cables from the Direct TV to the DVD input. The audio and video will be cleaner using S cables and audio and video cables, but stadard TV cable should get you going. You didn't mention what model DVD player you have. You may have to select the correct inout on the DVD for the Direct TV connection.
