Not directly. They used to have a "marketplace" where people could pay to get solutions from qualified experts, but that system flopped miserably. They also used to have a points store where you could "buy" things with the points you get from answering questions, but that too is gone. Now they're trying this: http://www.fixya.com/pro/landing-page

Are accounts deleted if they have not been logged into for a while?

I remember you Dennis!

Accounts are never deleted unless you are a persistent spammer and of course that is not the case with you.

The information you posted is very dated. No one here earns cash, not even me, I have been here since the start, currently 8 to 12 hours a day, 55,583 questions answered, 7.5 million people helped (the counter broke at 6.5 million). The only opportunity to earn cash is on the sister site www.6ya.com which is a telephone service. The Fixya site was sold a few years back to Globalscape who are a capital investment company specializing in online website communities that generate millions of dollars in advertising revenue.

And the last bit is no longer true :>(

How to post a good question here to get a good answer to your problem!

a521ea0.jpgWhen you post a question you want an answer that helps you solve your problem.

Aside from the title etc here are some important things to include in the text part of your question:

1. Type of equipment---For example----Plasma TV, or Projection TV.

2.) Brand and model number of equipment (put it in the part where you describe your problem).

3.) A description of what the equipment IS and IS NOT doing. The better you describe it the more likely you will get good advice.

4.) Any steps you have taken to resolve the problem.

The more the person who reads your question sees the better the chance he or she can help you.

5.) Once someone answers your question here is what to ask:

a.) Can you provide me with Step by Step instructions for this repair?
b.) Can you provide me with any photos that might aid me to resolve my problem?
c.) Can you provide me with a source for parts I might need to get it fixed?

A good description of your set and problem will greatly increase the chances of you getting the help you came here for.

Things to avoid:

Someone who replies with a link---go here and buy this, with no instructions on how to know WHAT to do to be sure it will help should be taken with a grain of salt---IF you post a well written Question you deserve a well written answer and also someone who will follow up if you have more questions.

One line answers rarely solve problems.

If you have posted here you know you can post in the Free, Premium, or Chat areas---the first is free but the second two cost something.

My experience here has found that Premium questions that are well written (both the title and description) get the best results.

If you have researched experts here--you can do that--and see one whose answers you like--you can when you post a question in any of the three main areas--type in the title "Attention and the experts handle"

Mine for example is SD TECH---you can before you post a question look at any experts history of questions, answers, % of approved answers etc.

Like checking a company before you decide to use them for fixing your car or TV or whatever.

I have posted this because many people post questions that while not impossible to answer--would get faster and BETTER answers if worded differently.

What is FixYa about? How can I contribute? Will I get paid for it?

Fix Ya is all about helping consumers troubleshoot the problems they encounter with their gadgets and devices. In their words, they say they provide “free tech support and technical help for gadgets, electronics equipment and consumer products.” Just a few weeks ago it was announced that Best Buy and Geek Squad would be partnering up with FixYa. Instead of bringing your computer in to Best Buy to get it fixed, you may be able to ask your question on FixYa and have it answered for free.
Who Answers Your Questions? If you’re wondering who it is that provides expert advice for the devices you own, it’s a team about about 30,000 different contributors. These contributors are average people like you who happen to know a little something about gadgets. Anybody can can suggest a solution for a problem that someone has posted, and then the community of FixYa rates the solution given as either “inappropriate,” “thanks for trying,” “helpful,” or “FixYa!” which is the best.
fixya.jpg Topics covered… You’re not going to find answers to your question about which brand of ketchup you should buy or what the best place to eat in San Francisco is. What you will find though is a huge list of different manufactures who make gadgets, electronics, and consumer products like Acer, Compaq, Epson, IBM, Insignia, Motorola, Panasonic, and more. In all, there are over 800,000 different consumer products covered.
Signing up for an account FixYa is free, unless you want “Premium Assistance” in which case it will cost. But then you’ll be guaranteed to get an answer via a post or Live Chat.
Features Other features at FixYa include:
  • WikiManuals – product guides written and edited by FixYa users
  • Experts Lounge- where FixYa experts meet to share what’s on their minds
  • Repair Directory – for locating a repair service near you
  • Manufacturer directory – for finding a specific manual and/or products
Becoming an expert: Anybody can become an expert by filling out a form found here, and you can even get paid. Of course not everybody is an expert in every field, so you just let them know which areas you’re an “expert” in.
Searching for Answers Searching for answers for your products is simple because everything is broken down into brands and then products. On their homepage on the bottom right you’ll see a list of brands broken down in alphabetical order. I clicked on Garmin, then I was able to browse through the list of different Garmin products to find the unit I own, the Garmin Nuvi 660. Once I found it, I could click on and then do the following:
  • search the Garmin Nuvi 660 GPS receiver knowledgebase
  • view problems/questions that have solutions
  • view problems/questions that don’t have a solution yet
  • post a new problem
  • subscribe to the product page via RSS
  • view tips and tricks (one tip in particular which explained how to do a full reset to original factory status was helpful)
  • view the WikiManual (if available)
  • See manuals and guides (if available)
  • View product specifications
  • View contact information
