Fogging up occurs when the water vapour ( Humidity) in the cab air hits the cold windows Remove the humidity by running the ac in conjunction with the heater . AC units to make the air feel cold by removing the humidity in the cab air allowing you to perspire more easily and you feel cooler. By running to two together ( climate control in some cars) the fog will quickly disappear.

The mildew smell you refer to could be anti-freeze. When a heater core starts leaking it may allow anti-freeze (which circulates through it for heat) to be blown through the ducts onto the windshield in defrost mode. The repair is to have the heater core replaced. It may wait for the thermostat to open and allow the coolant to circulate before you notice it. Occasionally the carpet on the passenger side may be wet from leakage.

In my experience i would say its the pump. But if you look in your owners manual there will be a fuse diagram. From there you can check the fuse. Also if you know where the fuse boxes are located you can look on the backside of the lid that closes the fuse box there is a diagram. That will help you locate the fuse. If you need further assistance please let me know. Thanks, Midwest-tek

I have a 2005 Impala. The windows fog up on the inside when it is cold outside or it is raining. They really fog up bad, to the point you can't see.

a fix for this is to run the ac
this although make it cold removes the moisture from the air inside the car and reduces the fogging up
if you have climate control run it or if not run the heater at the same time to take the edge of the cold
The air conditioner works by removing water vapor from the air through a condensation process there by making the air feel cooler
that restricts the moisture available to fog up the windows

That's not unusual if you have a lot of people in the car. I will fog up because the glass is colder then the warm moist air hitting it, so the water condenses on the glass. Two ways to solve this issue. First open the windows a small amount to get rid of the warm air and introduce some cold air. OR second, set your defroster from full hot to slightly on the cool side with air circulation from the outside as well (i.e blend air as opposed to only cabin air)..

My 2010 Chrysler 300 touring sedan has a problem with windows fogging up and even freezing from inside.

There is a drain for the heater plenum, it could be plugged up. Keeping water in the plenum. The drain is a rubber hose on the fire wall, on the passenger side. It just angles down. This will cause the fogged windows. You'll have to get it inside for awhile to thaw out, then blow air up in it to clear it. The other thing it could be is a leaking heater core.

If your car has an air conditioner turn it on as well as the heater . Air conditioned air is very dry and usually defrosts the windscreen quickly. The heat from the heater will overcome the cold air from the air/con. It is good for the air/con to be run during the winter months as well as summer, it stops the seals drying out and leaking refrigerent.
