Question about Frigidaire FRS26R4A Side by Side Refrigerator

2 Answers

I have a side by side. The problem I am having is that there is water accumulating at the bottom of the freezer side. There isn't any water hooked up so I am thinking there is a problem with the defrost. I took the inside back panel off and I see the grill is frosted up too. What to you think the problem is and how to I fix it please?

Thanks for the reply but it doesn't solve my problem.

    #1 I have a side by side

    #2 I don't have water hooked up.

#3 My water problem is on the inside so it can't be froma drip pan.

I removed the evaporator cover to expose the evaporator. The water builds up in and under the drain trough. Then spills over into the bottom of the freezer where it then freezes up. I am assuming the water problem has to be a defrost problem.

Thats a definate problem of defrost timer the defrost timer is a device which sets out command to defrost the frozen ice blocking up.between the evaporator coils.if the timer is faulty it does not send commands for defrosting which lets it go on and freezing and blocking until its completely blocked and there is no place for cool air to circulate and hence some of water startys melting and gets accumulated at bottom of the unit. to fix this problem you will have to replace the defrost timer.it costs approx 40 dollars.you can order defrost timer online from: http://www.repairclinic.com/
once the timer is replaced let the ice melt completely for sometime . the problem will be solved definately
thanks and do not forget to accept the solution .thanks for using fixya.keep updated.

The freezer has an obvious leak. When we wait a few days, we can see that water leaked into the freezer and it turned into a large brick of ice? What does that mean?

Hi Monica,
This seems to be a problem with overflow of water into the ice maker, or a leak in the feeder to the ice maker. My suggestion is to turn off the ice maker by raising the lever on the unit, and see if the ice re-accumulates. This would mean that the water is leaking from the inlet, and the ice maker has no obvious fault. If you find this, you can remove the ice maker from the freezer by removing the screws holding it to the inside, unplug the unit from the back of the freezer, and pull straight out. Look at the inlet of the water at the rear of the freezer and see if there is a break in the line or a crack somewhere along it. You can replace it from the back of the refrigerator itself, going from the bottom where the water is hooked up to the top by removing the panel that guards it.
I hope this isn't too confusing.

Ice maker leaking

Are you sure it's the ice maker that's leaking? We have this model & ours accumulates a HUGE iceberg in the bottom of the freezer, but the water seems to be coming out of the back, at the bottom of the back panel, where the vents are.

Water is accumulating inside the bottom of the freezer.

Hi, The defrost drain behind the rear freezer panel is plugged. Remove the rear panel and clear the ice away from the drain. Then you will need to flush the drain hole with hot water to make sure it is open.
Some models require an after market drain heat kit.
Please get me your model # and I can look this up to let you know if you need that heat kit.

Thanks
Vic

Water accumulates at the bottom of the freezer unit and leaks

You must clear the drain of anything that would cause water to pool up after each defrost cycle. Check your door gaskets for wear. Air entering the ice box can cause excessive frost.

Water inside bottom of freezer.

Water accumulation in the freezer more commonly points to the ice maker. Over a period of time, water entering the ice maker can slowly freeze to the point it provides a small restriction and prevents a portion of the water from entering the ice maker. The plastic spout/tube could also have either cracked or shifted and is allowing a small amount of water to leak into the freezer.
