Slow typing on screen

By Eyedoc on Oct 15, 2007

When I type on my Dell Inspiron E1705 Laptop, the letters show up very slowly on the screen.  My typing gets way ahead of what shows up on the screen!
Please help.

-   When typing on my Dell Vostro 1500 LapTop, it seems my key board does not keep up with my typing. It's very irregular, sometimes it finishes a sentence on time and then other times, it may stall on one word and when I finish typing - all of a sudden the words all appear at once. the worse part is when trying to backspace, I may hit it five times and it will erase back more than I hit.-   ILOVEPURPLE

-   I'm having an issue with my Dell XPS 1530 laptop. When I type it seems that the keyboard is slower than my typing speed and it ends up that some letters that I KNOW I hit do not appear in my text. For example, while typing this, if I slow down and type very slowly its generally ok. If I type at the speed I'm used to typing then I have to backspace and correct almost every other word since letters are missing from what I wrote. I have Windows Vista (unfortunately). Otherwise this is a very nice laptop. I have tried locating the offending program in start up as recommended but this program is not listed. I really could use some help if anyone has any tips. Thanx.-   elfgirl

Unless you are low on memory, you may have a corrupt driver or an incorrect setting, go to my computer icon or on start menu, right click>properties>hardware tab>device manager, then look down the list for keyboard, click the '+' sign, select your keyboard and right click, and select uninstal or delete.

Restart pc and then it will install the keyboard automatically and the driver and should now work as normal

The previous post had the fix in the comments. Disable loading of PCMService.exe through Start-->Run-->msconfig, de-select PCMService.exe on the startup tab. Cleared the slow typing problem right up.

those proposed solutions disabling the pmcservice only works if you have a DELL laptop. The pcmservice is linked to the dell media direct. This service is not installed on other computers. I have no idea why this title says generic problem for all laptops when clearly it isn't.
I have yet to find the solution for the non-Dell computers after 3 hours of work on a HP laptop that is having the issue. Just uninstalled symantec corporate 10.2 to see if that was the issue and it is not. I've killed all startup services, checked registry items, malware scans, etc. and I'm kind of at a loss at the moment.

- OK, I have found another fix finally after 3 hours of tinkering around and looking around among other sites.
If the battery is at the end of its life, it CAN cause the performance of the laptop to deteriorate. I know, I wouldn't of ever thought of it either. We removed the battery from the problem laptop and the issue immediately went away.

The letters appearing on the screen a behind my typing speed and the speed that they appear is very irregular. It like they get stuck and then catch up. I have read the previous answer and followed it but my set up seems to be different. I have uninstalled the keyboard driver and reinstalled but it has made no difference.
