CD's work fine, but DVD's say no disc

  • keithyd Nov 23, 2007

This is the second machine I've had that's developed the same problem - I wouldn't mind, but I hardly ever play DVDs. No more than 10 on each machine before it developed this problem. Repairman said for the first one that it wasn't a dirty lens problem - sent it away for repair but it took too long, so they gave me another one. Same problem has occurred after 5 months of light use.

Plays audio CD's, no problem. Put is a video disc and get "No Disc" message.

    Hi,

I got one of these that worked for about 3 weeks of occasional use. It kept saying no disc. My cheap, rubbish DVD player has played anything I've thrown at it for 6 years and still going.

Took it back and it was sent off for repairs. When they returned it it still had exactly the same problem. Sent it off for repairs again. After 2 months they just gave me a new machine, which had the same problem after about a months. I guess I'll take it back again but really I've lost faith in the product. Paid a lot of money for it and it is a piece of......rubbish.

I am having the same issue. Tech Support suggested the Lens Cleaner which worked for about a month. I called Phillip Support and have made arrangements for replacement...I guess we will see how that goes

I have the exact same problem, and it will be such a hassle to unplug it all and take it back, does anyone know what can be done at home before i take it back to the store?

  • Anonymous Nov 04, 2008

Same problem here (in the Netherlands). Does not play anything anymore. Tries lens cleaner with no success. Even appeared to make it worse...

  • Anonymous Nov 10, 2008

like many, got the same 'no disc' message, paid a load for this machine - total rubish - wont by Philips again

  • tschanen_mr Nov 18, 2008

only watched 7 movies on the damn thing only had it for 3 mos and it wont read dvd's either. It would cost to much to ship it back to be replaced. reads all other discs

I have a Philips Home theater system, cost $800. I bought it about 5 years ago and complained about it within a week. After about 6 mths the retailer sent it back to Philips who returned it saying 'nothing wrong with it'. Since then I have TRIED to use it about 4 or 5 times and it is hopeless. Background sound effects just about burst your eardrums and you cannot hear dialog. Solution for me is to tell as many people as possible NEVER BUY PHILIPS products ever!!! Also NEVER buy ANYTHING from that particular retailer. I ended up buying a cheap DVD player, cost less than $100 which is user friendly and actually works!!!

Ok looks llike a lens problem..Try this
Get a lens cleaner CD with liquid..Put two drops of liquid on the brush of the lens cleaner..insert the CD in your drive and play it..If it plays fine otherwise you will need to replace the lens..Get it replaced rather..should run you about 25-50$.If you want to get it repaired give it for repair only in a Philips showroom..
Good luck!

Philipe home cinema - No Disk Error

Hi, the best thing to do is to reset the device back to factoy settings, how to do that is mostly written in your manual. Also unplugging the power for 5 to 10 minutes might help.

Green line on TV with DVD playing

The aspect ratio is fine, I just fixed mine you have to use the TV remote, and press the left or right directional button depending on where the green line. Philips TV offsets the picture when using HDMI, but its easily fixable using this remedy. Time to take the tape off haha!

Phillips 6500 home theater system

Turn the power off, and then unplug the home theater from the wall outlet. Plug it back in after about 30 seconds, and turn it back on. If it still won't eject, then the HTS needs repair. Philips will replace it if it is still in warranty.

Philips HTS 6500 not reading my DVD's

I bought this item in Nov. of '07 and it worked great...for about 3 months then the dreaded no disc message appeared and has ruined my life. Howvever after not using this DVD player for a month or so i had decided to tinker with it to try and get it to work and it appears i have found a solution that is working for me so far. After being fed up with Philips and trying their "solutions" because as we all know the U.S. sells DVD's with the wrong region code (ha funny Philips people) i began trying to make this stupid peice of garbage work in any way. What i came up with is this: 1.) insert your DVD and wait to see what happens. When you get the no disc readings this is what you do. 2) Eject the dvd but do not touch it 3). While the dvd is sitting in the slot press and hold down the play button on the remote control and continue to hold it down 4) it may take awhile but give it a chance, and hopefully the DVD will "resume play" and start anew. If holding the play button down does nothing then try holding it and releasing it in intervals until something happens. If nothing ever happens then i guess you SOL. I know this is not an desired fix to the problem but so far it has worked for me. I noticed this because the stupid thing will would read a cd and this got me thinking. This way is kind of a jump start to get the dvd going....hope this helps someone

The HDMI lead only carries the video and audio from the HTS6510/05 to the TV.

The scart carries audio and video both ways.

Re-connect the scart lead and all will be ok.

N.B. When the HTS6510 is switched on, the TV will auto-switch to the scart input. You will then need to switch the TV to HDMI to get the benefit from the DVD upscaling.
