Sony KDL40EX710 40 inch BRAVIA. The audio is good, but the image appears only every 2 or 3 minutes, then the screen turns green or black. After 5 minutes the image appears again for 2 or 3 minutes and the cycle is always repeated.

on your set there is inverter board that is what lights up th backlight on your TV making everything visible that board has went bad.

It could be 1 of 4 things:
1. One of the ribbon cables has worked itself loose (Simple Fix)
2. One of the assembly boards maybe faulty
3. The driver board which feeds the panel maybe faulty
4. The panel is faulty

The driver board in the UK costs approx £70 and approx £35-70 to fit it if this is the fault.

All other parts are between £80-160 and approx £35-70 to fit it if this is the fault.

The panel will cost approx 50-75% of what the TV was worth when you bought it - "Repair versus Replacement"

The lamp probably is bad and needs replacing. The part number is XL2400. I would replace it with a genuine Sony lamp.
