Question about Kenwood KRF-V5060D Receiver

1 Answer

Music, sound effects no dialogue

I have a Kenwood KRF V5200D running with optical to PS3. After finally installing rear speakers, DVDs can't be heard in Dolby Digital - you can hear the sound effects, music but not the dialogue. Can hear everything perfectly if select stereo. When playing Blu Ray disc could hear everything in Pro Music but would not detect DD only Pro Logic. Any suggestions?

Sounds ok but not dialogue...

It sounds to me like you are using the receiver in surround sound mode and the click you hear is the center channel turning off. If you have another center channel speaker, try swapping that for the one you are currently using. If that doesn't fix the issue, then try replacing the speaker wire. If that still doesn't fix it, then the issue is probably inside the receiver and may be either an output transistor that is failing when hot or an electrolytic capacitor that allows too much DC offset when hot.

Reciever keeps yurning itself off after a few seconds

Assuming running from a cold start,

it means protection circuit are activated.

If it runs hot, then turns off then it is thermal cause.

Simple solution could be disconnecting all your speakers

and power up.

If it runs OK, then reconnect one at a time to find the cause.

If disconnecting the speakers doesnt do anything,

these unit needs repair.

Start checking out power supply

Check the supply rails to the main amp ( B+ and B-)

and most important , check for DC offset voltage on all amp outputs.

Optical input from Sony PS3 Playstation.

Have you tried setting the PS3 on linear PCM output instead of bitstream? The DVR 50 may not say Dolby Digital since the optical cable goes directly from the PS3 to it but you may get the surround channel output you're looking for.
