You need to get a 5 or 10 farad capacitor and that should take care of your problem

Your lights are dimming because your system is pulling too much current from your car. Your battery provides long-term sustained power, but your system wants to draw power faster than your alternator and battery can provide it. When the amp attempts to draw more amperage than the battery and alternator can produce, it creates a voltage differential in your system, which attempts to steal electricity from the rest of your system (like your lights). The most common solution for lights dimming is to add some level of adequate capacitance to your car. Capacitors store electricity and deliver it quickly to your amps as needed. Capacitors resist voltage changes by producing large amounts of amperage. This means that the capacitor(s) will provide the electrical bursts that your amps want so that it doesn't have to steal it from your lights. You can start out with 1.0 Farad, if the problem doesn't go away, add another one, and so on until the problem is gone. You cannot have too much capacitance, it's just an electrical buffer for your audio system.

I have a 2008 Nissan xterra. I'm running all 0 gauge wiring to my jl system. 250/1 amp, 2 10" wo3 . My lights dim a little so I ordered a soundstream scx2 2 farad cap. I did not realize it was 24vdc

The capacitor will do little to solve the light dimming issue. You are experiencing the problem because you are at or near the capacity of the alternator/battery power output when playing your system at high volumes. You can add the cap in if you want to, the voltage specification is a maximum voltage, so it should not be a problem. I still doubt that you will solve your light dimming problem with it though.

2001 hyundai accent possible alternator or wiring issue

the alternator is not charging
that can be from problem alternator , wiring ,fuse , voltage regulator, incorrectly adjusted alternator drive belt or dead battery
best have an accredited auto electrician check it out by bench testing the alternator and voltage regulator and load testing the battery
loose or dirty /corroded battery terminals will also be a part of the problem
if the voltage regulator is integrated with the ECM , you will need a replacement ECM
BUt get the proper diagnosis done first as that will save cash

Lights dim when bass hits....

you need to upgrade your electrical system.

First easy thing you can do is buy a bigger battery. Get a battery with the highest cold cranking amps(cca) that will fit. Yellow top would be great.

If you have the $$ have a higher amp alternator put in. these are very expensive.

this is an advanced solution, and any vehicle with a big amp should have this done. Its called a big 3 upgrade.

Get some at least 2 awg hook up wire. you will need enough to run a wire to the neg of the battery to the chassis to your altinator. and enough to run from the pos on the bat to the pos on the altinator. and from the neg to the frame of the car.

Use copper lugs and solder them on the ends of the wires. Use a blow torch and pliers to hold it and heat it up. Melt solder into it about half way full, and then push stripped end into it, then squelch it with a damp cloth and wipe it off.

Do this for all, and hook everything up.

You can install a CAP if you want. I personally don't believe in them. They help the car dimming a little, but the lower the voltage at the amp.

How do i check starter voltage on 1995 7.3 Ford F250? The batteries are less than a year old. They are being drained frequently. Today truck will not crank. Starter checked out by mech.

Sounds like you have something else draining battery. Possibilities include the alternator. For starter cranking voltage place the positive lead of voltmeter on positive of battery and the negative on the other. Disable fuel, then crank for 15 seconds and read volts while cranking. This is your cranking voltage. For voltage drop on cables, place positive on battery positive and negative at battery cable on starter. Crank 15 seconds. This should be less than .5 volts. The same can be done with any cable or wire in the starting or charging circuit of a vehicle. Just place the positive on positive or negative on negative, with the other lead at the opposite end of the cable being tested. In charging diagnostics, you will get the charging system operating with the engine running while you do the readings. I suggest though, that you do a parasitic drain check. If you disconnect the positive cable of the battery and place a test light in series (one end to battery, the other to the cable), you should have a very dim light to no light. If the light is bright, you have a drain. Proceed by making sure everything is off and there are no dome or hood lights on. Start removing fuses one at a time until the light goes out or gets very dim. Replace each one after you check it to avoid having a pile of fuses to put back. Also disconnect the alternator wiring to eliminate this possibility. A fried regulator may feed voltage to the fields all night if it's shorted. This will drain both batteries in relatively short time.

Low ohm light stays on my jl 1000/1

you have your amp wired at too low of an ohm load for the amplifier. This is why it is doing this. Jl amps are awesome and pretty much make everything idiot proof. Not calling you an idiot but go online and search for that model on JL.com then look on either the box your subwoofers came in or on the back of your subwoofers. Find out which ohm load they are and how many voice coils. Next go to www.the12volt.com and find the subwoofer wiring diagrams close to the top of the page. Then enter in your information on your sub's impedence and how many you have then it will give you the wiring options that you have and it will probly tell you you are wired at like a .5 ohm load. And let me guess you turn it up too long or too loud and your amp gets hot and it goes into protection.

Will a JL audio 1000/1 amp run a orion HCCA 15

Hello evopower,

The JL 1000/1 will power the Orion HCCA OK.

It is stable only to 1.5 ohms so your best choice would be the 15.4 with dual 4ohm voice coils. In parallel, this would offer a 2ohm impedance. The 15.2 could only be wired for either a 1ohm load (too low) or a 4ohm load (less power).

Hope this helps.

Jl 1000/1 amp not working

If I'm not mistaken, the blue light is the low voltage indicator. You need to confirm that the voltage ON THE POWER SUPPLY TERMINALS of the amp never drops below 11 volts. If it does, the amp will shut off. It's possible that you have a bad connection or even a defective fuse that's causing the problem.

JL recommends a 100 amp fuse for the amp. If you use a fuse that's too large and something goes wrong, the amp may be very severely damaged (possibly beyond repair).
