I have an HP notebook. I was on Skype with a friend when suddenly it froze showing green colors on the screen. Nothing would un freeze it so I opted to turn it off through the power button. ...

Step 1:
Restart your computer repeatedly tapping the f8 key to enter safe mode while the screen is black once in safe mode where the only things working will be your keyboard and mouse allowing you to attempt to repair your computer
If done properly the user should get to a screen similar to the below screen. Select the option for Safe mode command prompt only Windows Advanced Options Menu
Please select an option: Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt Enable Boot Logging
Enable VGA mode
Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)
Debugging Mode Start Windows Normally
Reboot
Return to OS Choices Menu Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice. Select safe mode with command prompt then type in chkdsk/f/r which will scan for and and attempt repair of bad files and bad sectors on hard drive You should have no input while chkdsk utility is in progress any input might further damage your computer also Use the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to determine which file is causing the issue and then replace the file. Type the following command and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

Hello I wonder if you can help. When we switch

Had a similar problem like this several times. Try choosing safe mode. Safe mode will load the required drivers. After safe mode finishes the loading process, restart your computer and choose to start windows normally. The problem you mention usually happens when the computer is turned off without using normal shut down procedures. Also happens when you have a sudden power outage.

Can't factory restore dell inspiron 531 (windows xp).

You might want to try going into setup and setting your boot drive options to DVD drive as your 1st, HD as 2nd and Floppy as 3rd. Put your windows disk in the DVD before boot and run the program from DVD.

I have a Dell GX60 and I changed the display resolution and

So, with The computer, completely turned off, Turn it on, Can't you see the BIOS screen? , or a Dell LOGO?

It is when you see this BIOS or Dell logo Screen that you Need to:
  • PRESS F8
  • Press F8
  • Press F8, again, and again right when your computer turns on.
Then You should be brought to the Window that allows you to boot into SAFE MODE, DO NoT PICK SAFE MODE.

Pick: ------------ENABLE VGA (basically safe mode) Only!.

Once booted, log in and change the resolution to let's say 800x600,
then restart your computer normally.

You should then be able run windows normally, (Without F8 Key) where you can then change the resolution to what you want.

IMPORTANT! Remember this, if you set your display to a resolution that it Does Not

support, and the screen goes blank. DO Not Turn off your computer: ALL YOU DO IS PRESS

the (Esc) ESCAPE Key within 15 Seconds and your monitor's resolution will be set to it's

previous state again.

I Hope This Helps.

This generally is the indication that the hard drive has failed and needs replaced. You can try reloading the system, but 99% of the time when I see this the hard drive is shot.
