Are you going from a three wire plug to a four? Not sure what your question is but I know I can help. If it is a four wire, the red and black wires go to the two outside posts. The white wire goes to the middle post and the green/copper wire goes to a gground screw located on the cabinet near the wire terminal block cover.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic

I think your old plug is probably 120 and you may need to convert to 220. It's probably the wiring is probably 220 in new home? Or maybe not grounded properly. This is a job for a professional. If you think you know what you doing, we try to save a few dollars by doing it ourselves. But sometimes it is time to call the experts, before we cause more damage and cost us more money. Good luck!

I have a 4 prong tanning bed 220v and my appliance outlet at home only accepts the 3 prong plus such as the ones you see on a dryer. How can i get this converted to a 3 prong so that i can plug it in? Or...

It is because you tanning bed requires L1 and L2 (240V) and a seperate neutral, and a ground. You need an electrician to install a proper outlet. A dryer (years ago) was installed without a neautral. However per NEC electrical code even new dryers have to have 4 wires. Do not attempt to use on 3 wires !

How do you connect the LG DLEX5101V Dryer to the electrical outlet on the wall if there is no cord to plug in?

There are a couple of types of plugs in homes - and the dryer manufacturer use this excuse to not ship a cord with the dryer - profiting that much more. You'll need to purchase a cord set for your dryer. Assuming you live in the U.S., that means you need a 30 amp 240 volt cord. That's easy enough, but it does get harder.

Most homes have an outlet that has three slots in it - like the one below:
steve_con_39.jpg
A 240 volt, 30 amp, 3 wire dryer plug.

New homes have a safer, 240 volt 30amp 4 wire plug. They look like the one below:
steve_con_40.jpg
A 240 volt, 30 amp, 4 wire dryer plug.

The code states that when a dryer is purchased it should be connected via a 4 wire cord. This means if you have the older, 3 wire outlet - it will have to be changed along with the entire length of cable between the electrical panel and the outlet (the new outlet needs a 4 wire cable - the older plug was supplied by a 3 wire cable).

Those are the rules. Many people opt to purchase the older 3 wire cords so that they can connect directly to the 3 wire outlet already installed in their home. As an electrician, I have to caution you on doing that. It is a violation of the electrical code as it has been identified as an unsafe condition. The code hopes to rectify this by slowly requiring new dryers to be wired with 4 wire cords and making the homeowner upgrade the old 3 wire outlet to a newer, safer 4 wire outlet. Of course, no one will come to see what you had and if you changed it, etc.

Mose hardware stores, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. sell these cords for under $20. Make sure you choose a 30 amp dryer cord - and not the similar looking but thicker 50 amp stove or range cord.

I hope this helps & good luck! Please rate my reply.

I need to know what type of power cord to use with a Maytag sde2606ayw dryer. I have a dryer but no power cord. I have no idea about what to get and how to determine what to get. thanks, Patrick

Hello Patrick. dryers do not come with a cord because there are two very different and very common dryer sockets installed in homes in this country. look at your dryer socket, where you will be plugging in your new dryer. It is either a 3 hole or a 4 hole socket. IF it is a 3 hole socket then u will need a 3 hole plug. If it is a 4 hole socket you will need a 4 hole plug. The plugs are available at Sears, Home Depot, Lowes and they all come with instructions.

please rate my answer as very helpful. thanks Joe

The following link explains how to convert a 3-prong cord to a 4-prong:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r793520-3_prong_4_prong_power_cord_conversion

The main difference is how the Neutral (WHITE) and Ground (GREEN or BARE) wires are installed. In a 4-wire configuration, the neutral and ground are INDEPENDENT of each other and are not connected together.

Read through the link and let me know if you have questions. I hope this helps you.

We have a kenmore 70 series electric dryer, and we have a three prong receptacle, but the plug is 4 prong. What type of adapter do we need?

According to the National Electrical Code, as of 2000 all newer homes are required to have a 4-prong receptacle for all 220VAC appliances. However, if your home already had a pre-existing 3 prong outlet, you shouldn't have to upgrade to a 4 prong. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r793520-3_prong_4_prong_power_cord_conversion

The main difference is how the neutral (WHITE) and green (GROUND) wires are termnated. In a 4 wire configuration, the neutral and ground are independent of each other. In a 3 wire configuration these two wires are terminated together. The instructions to convert a 4-prong appliance to a 3-prong are at the bottom of the page in the link I provided.

NOTE: If this is a new dryer, keep in mind, some REQUIRE a 4-prong plug even if you have a pre-existing 3 prong outlet. Read through your installation instructions that came with the appliance if in doubt. If this is the case, you will need to have a 4 wire outlet installed by a certified electrician.

If you have questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

New house requires 4 prong plug for dryer...mine has 3...bought new cord...How to wire it?

The old three prong, the vertical prong is neutral (white wire), the two slanted are 220 volts. The new plug, the extra prong is ground (bare wire). Shut off the outlet at the breaker panel, and remove the outlet to examine the wiring to it. It should be as above--the 220 volt wires are red and black or black and black. The ground wire is bare or green insulated. Inside the dryer case, tie the green and white wires to the dryer case, and tie the two outside wires where they went with the old cord. Check with an electrician if you are unsure about this.

You'll need to get a new 4 prong cable. Connect wires as color coded now and connect the green to the frame.
