Question about Linksys BEFW11S4 Wireless-B Broadband Router (12503024)

Unable to connect to Linksys BEFW11S4 router from new Toshiba lap

I recently purchased a Toshiba Satellite M305-S4910 laptop with Windows Vista and have not been able to determine how to connect to the Internet through my wireless Linksys BEFW11S4 router. I have the laptop connected to the router with the ethernet cable. The instructions that came with the router only go as far as Windows XP. I've found the Network and Sharing Center and clicked on Set up a connection or network which tells me that Windows detected network hardware but cannot configure it automatically. When I click on Configure this devise manually, it asks for a User name and Password. Previously, I had always input Admin as the User name and left the Password blank but it insists on a user name and password.

I'm sure this should not be so difficult but not being a wiz at computers, I would appreciate any detailed instructions anyone can provide to me.

I have been able to connect to other networks while travelling; it's only a problem at home.

Thanks for any assistance anyone can provide!

Thanks for your feedback. Our provider is Charter. We are able to connect other wireless laptops; two are older versions of Windows and the other has Vista.

If the solution provided above provided by

HeLpINHaRrY does not work, I'll give Charter a call.

This sounds like security problems , other people have experienced problems with vista but most have been able to resolve them.

whilst connected to your router using an ethernet cable open a browser windows and type in the rounter address these
are usually one of 2 most likely yours is
192.168.1.1
and typing password as "admin" and no user name. Use your password if you have changed it earlier 2

Go to wireless tab. 3. Go to wireless security sub-tab 4. If security mode is wpa or wpa2 note down passphrase/shared key, if security mode is WEP note down wep key number 1. This will be your network key
also check other.

On the Vista laptop with the connection
Start --> Network

Click on Network and Sharing Center

if It shows a red X between my network and the Internet.

click on the Customize link (below and right of the red X)

Under location type if it was set to Public. change it
to Private. Hit Next

At that point my whole network might go down,  and
reset the router. (turned off and turned on)

After that my red X under network and sharing center
was gone. And my internet connection problem was gone.

I forgot to mention that before you shoul have turned
off all software firewalls and virus scanners. prior.

if that does not work when you are logged into the router page 192.168.1.1 check to see if their is an option to update the router software/firmware ,if their is no option then you  may have to manually downlaod the firmware from linksys and update that way .

Hope this helps if not ask for clarification on anything your unsure of.

How do you get your internet, who is your provider?

it's important to know because you may have to call their tech support to get the router to match the cable box (cable) or modem(dsl). I had to manually change my ip address because the modem(dsl) box they gave me was set to the same ip as the router.

best of luck

Toshiba satellite m305-s4910 flickering toolbar

My M305-S4910 was doing the same thing. After some research, I replaced the video cable. The flickering was not as bad, but still there. I just replaced the inverter, and the pink line beneath the toolbar is now gone and so is the flickering. :-)

I cannot get my Toshiba Satellite M305-S4910 to switch its' display to a stationary monitor. Is there something I need to do besides plug in the monitor cable?

Are you in windows 7? If so, hold the windows key and press P. Select the monitor output configuration you want (being careful to make sure you can still see the screen on something).

If you lose the screen entirely, unplug the vga cable and reboot the computer.

I have a new hp lap top with windows 7 it is recognizing my linksys router but saying no internet connection available, i have two other laptops that have no problem connecting

You have befw11s4 router, which is very old router.
May be you will need to upgrade the firmware of the router.
change the channel to 6.
check the wireless security settings.
Make sure that the wireless MAC filter is disabled.
For this you will need to access the router set up page.
make sure that the computer is connected to the router with the cable when you open the router set up.

My new Satellite M305-S4910 is experiencing a monitor flickering. What can I do to stop it flickering?

Remove the power strip above the keyboard and the keyboard and remove the bezel on the LCD. This will give you a clear view of the wiring leading from the screen to the motherboard. Look for a loose connection or rubbed or frayed wiring. Also, a lot of video problems are from the cable getting loose that runs from the back of the screen. This is a flat cable the fits in a socket on the back of the screen.

Here is the lcd removal duide for your laptop....
