Question about Clarion XMD3

Clarion XMD3 dimmer, how to get it to work?

In the set-up there is a dimmer function that can be set to "on" or "off". I assumed there would be an input to connect to the lights for a signal to dim the lights. I cannot find any such wire.. How does the dimmer work?

I'm sorry. I don't think I was very clear on exactly what my problem is. The Clarion XMD3 has a "dimmer" function and I assumed it was a feature that would allow me to dim the display at night. I turned the feature "on" but there must be some way to trigger the display to dim. Traditionally it is an input wire to the receiver that is connected to the running lights. I don't see a dimmer input wire on the back of the receiver. How else would the dimmer feature work? Or is it referring to a totally different feature? Thanks..

Early dimmer switches had a pretty straightforward solution to adjusting light levels -- a variable resistor. An ordinary resistor is a piece of material that doesn't conduct electrical current well -- it offers a lot of resistance to moving electrical charge. A variable resistor consists of a piece of resistive material, a stationary contact arm and a moving contact arm.

A modern dimmer switch "chops up" the sine wave. It automatically shuts the light bulb circuit off every time the current reverses direction -- that is, whenever there is zero voltage running through the circuit. This happens twice per cycle, or 120 times a second. It turns the light circuit back on when the voltage climbs back up to a certain level.

This is typically the output IC not working. This can be due to a speaker short. The unit will need to be repaired or replaced.

I have a Clarion installed in my boat. Sirrius, cd am fm. No jack to plug in iPod. Solution?

FM Modulator.

(clarion makes a hardwire direct connect one)

FM200

You would use a 3.5mm to RCA adapter

There are also battery powerd ones (Belkin)

Either one is used by simply tuning in to an empty (white noise) radio station.

Im assuming the XMD3-RET is not the radio you are inquiring about since you described Sirius as a feature.

Some clarion radios have an AUX input or changer port that can be converted to an ipod cable.

If you reply with a model # i can look it up for you. I am a Clarion Dealer.

Connecting my ipod to xmd3

I believe that if you use the RCA connectors, you can use your iPod. If you use the clarion cca connector, you get more functionality from the dash of the clarion.
