f you are experiencing issues when using a Universal Media Disc (UMD™) on the PSP system, try these troubleshooting options:
Issues with PlayStation®Store contentClick here for help with content purchased from the PlayStation Store.
Restore Default Settings Restore Default settings will default the PSP system to its original settings. A setting change may be the reason the PSP system is having difficulties. Click here to learn how to restore default settings on the PSPgo / PSP system.
Confirm UMD is properly inserted
Make sure the UMD is properly inserted with the label facing the back of the PSP system. Try removing the UMD and reinserting it. Please note, it is normal for the PSP system to make noises while it is reading from a UMD.
For PSP-1001, slide the latch to open the UMD door. For the PSP-2001 and PSP-3001, simply lift the door open.
Try playing the UMD on a different PSP system If possible, try playing the UMD on a different PSP system. If the disc still does not function properly, it might need to be replaced. If the disc does function properly, the PSP system may need service, see PSP Service for details.
Try playing a different UMD on the PSP system If possible, try playing a different UMD on the PSP system. If another UMD plays, the original UMD may be the problem. If none of the UMD's play, the problem may be isolated to the PSP system.
Check for moisture Do not let the PSP system or any PSP® accessories come in contact with liquid. Also check for moisture condensation in the PSP system. If moisture condensation occurs, remove the disc from the PSP and do not use the PSP until the condensation has evaporated, which can take an hour or two. In general, if any part of the PSP gets wet, discontinue use until it is completely dry.
Check the regional code Check the regional code on the UMD™ Video. The only regional codes that the North American PSP® is tested to work properly with are "ALL" and "1. "

Below where the UMD game appears on screen try the button below that should say 'Update PSP'. The game could have an update for the PSP and won't play without it. If this doesn't work contact Sony Website Forums and see if anybody there has had the problem.
If you have custom firmware installed you can download umd dumper: http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/38.Just put the umddump and the umddump% in PSP,GAME and then put the umd you want to copy on your psp and on your psp go to game, memory stick and click x on umd dumper. Then when its done coping go to game, memory stick and there should be the game of the umd and you dont have to had the umd to play the game.
Maybe your psp is not updated...
my psp can't play games too, i downloaded a nfs mostwanted it didnt work...
One guy told me that, my psp will be updated to firmware 3.80
so that i can play games on my psp...
If you're using umd...
you can find an update icon just below the UMD Game icon...
Follow the instructions while running the update
..bring it back to 'Gamestop' & tell them truthfully that the PSP you bought doesn't play UMDs.
.. maybe there're problem's with the UMDs? Are they pre-owned?
If the PSP is brand new when you bought it, you can claim for FREE repairs, or perhaps a replacement from SONY! Mostly warrantys are just 1yr period, so you better 'do what you have to do' before Christmas!
When you insert a UMD into the PSP, then what happens? What appears on the screen?
- Do you hear the UMD drive spinning for quite awhile, but not loading up under the Game column?
Slide the open latch on the top of the PSP? system. The disc cover opens.
the UMD? with the disc label facing the system rear. Slide the UMD?
down the metal guides and press down until fully inserted. You should
hear a slight click, indicating that the UMD? is held in place.
the reason the umd wont load is because someone shut the psp off when the game was loading. so whoever did that just messed up your psp. i know cause someone did it to mine now i have to get it fixed or buy a new one. and to get the psp fixed its not guna be cheap.
