Possibly Fried ps3

Hello I have owned a ps3 for a few months now and recently had a storm move through the area. dummy me had the system hooked up to the wirless router by ethernet cable when lightning hit the tree in my font yard, I beleive It hit the cat5 line for the phone and modem because it fried the modem and the ps3 i think, the system will power on for a few seconds then shut off during which the light is green then turns yellow then shuts down and flashes red. I have been looking around online and some people are saying that it is pretty much fried. is there anyway i can repair this, and what it might have damaged or am i prety much out on this?

You CAN repair it, but you probably shouldn't try.

Unless you have another PS3 or have a buddy that doesn't mind you taking his apart then it's pretty much a waste of your time.

Call SONY for repair @ 1-800-345-SONY

If you do have access to a PS3 that you can swap parts from then by all means let me know and I'll point you in the right direction.

Well the first part you would want to buy is the power supply, but before you do that you should try finding my blog by searching google for rescuetechla

there's lots of info on the page, I haven't had anytime to work on the page, but will be adding more info by the end of this month.

    Best of luck!

I am using powerline ethernet adapters from my pc to ps3 was working fine for 12 months uddenly ps3 will no longer connect to internet, however using wifi it will, having moved adapter to ...

A power surge during a storm can damage the powerline adapters, in a heartbeat. This is a very strong possibility and you may need to replace the adapter(s). If it fried one, it can fry them both. Was any other electroonics connected to the power outlets in the home damaged? If so, then you may be out of luck, and need to replace them both.

My playstation 3 blinks red when you turn it on

Hello,

Again, people assume because it is blinking red that it is the "YLOD", better known as a hardware failure.

"When the power status light flashes red after using the PS3 system for 3 or more minutes and shuts off, the PS3 system has possibly over heated. This may be caused by poor ventilation or the vents may be blocked."

"If this happens:

• Check to see if the vents are blocked. If the vents are dusty, vacuum the vents to remove the dust.

• If the PS3 system is in an enclosed area like a bookshelf or entertainment center, move it to a more open area.

• Leave the PS3 system off for 30 minutes to let it cool down.

• If you continue to have issues, you will have to send the system in for service."
Good luck......

No power on Samsung TV after storm

Hello Zkarim,

I'm very sorry to hear about your unfortunate new's. I had the same problem in my own home maybe a week ago.

Basically if your power flickered on and off at anytime during this storm then there was a power surge that probably fried your TV.
* First check the power where the tv was plugged in. Is it a power strip or a surge protector ? Surge protectors typically have an on/off switch and a separate reset push button.

If it is a power strip then the tv fried because there was nothing to stop it from happening (not even the fuse). If it was plugged into a surge protector then it could be quiet a few years old and not as reliable or the surge was to powerful for the limit on the surge protector.

The only thing you can do personally is send it in for repair if it's under warranty, if it is not then you can have it looked at by an authorized repair technician in your area. Troubleshooting should be fairly low, and you will at least be able to find out your options once they find the defected part.

Thank you for choosing Fixya!
