To get to the recovery partition on your Compaq Armada M700, turn on the notebook and press F11 repeatedly until "Windows is loading files..." displays on the screen. Then, follow the on-screen instructions.
If your notebook originally came with Windows XP or an earlier version of Windows, try pressing F10 to enter recovery instead of F11.
You might need to go into "setup" when your computer boots up and change the boot options so that it boots first from CDrom and hard drive second. This should allow it to boot off the Windows CD. That will start your Windows setup program.
I am running a Armada M700 with a Hitachi HTS541060G9AT00 60GB Hard Drive - Ultra ATA-100, 5400 RPM, 8MB. The driver that is loaded in mine is on both primary and secondary is atapi.sys. This driver is also installed on the Intel 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller, along with intelide.sys. The main difference is I am running Window XP Pro SP2. But I believe that they should use the same driver.
Hope this helps.
