The computer should automatically notice that its connected to your tv and adjust itself.

Are you sure your selecting the correct extention on the tv?

I would try all of them just incase..

Superscan tv

Since you didn't give the model SuperScan TV, I am going to speculate that your TV has composite video input only; like the 19TVD3S that I know. If your laptop has a VGA port, you will need a VGA to composite video converter. See http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011407&p_id=4724&seq=1&format=2 . Other stores have similar items. You can't use a VGA to composite video cable; these cables are for connecting to projectors that read the computer's RGB signal.

Other converters are available for VGA to component video. If your laptop has an HDMI output, then a HDMI to component video converter would be a good idea. (A few rare computers came with TV out; then you just need the correct adapter for the port to composite or component video.)
Next you may need to enable the external video output in your BIOS. The port can be disabled for power-saving. In that case, look at the splash screen as your computer boots up. It will tell you (in a brief blink) if you need to press Esc, Del, F1, F2 or another key to access the BIOS. Press the key repeatedly after turning on the computer (after shutting down); if you miss the timing, turn off the computer and try again. I've missed the timing several times.
Once the port is active, make sure that the TV is on and set to the video input. Then turn on the computer. If you have Windows, you will have to choose the screen to use for your display. For most newer versions of Windows, right click on a portion of the desktop (somewhere with no icons or running programs). Select Screen Resolution or a similar line. Then you can select using the monitors as duplicate monitors, extended monitors or Monitor 1 or Monitor 2 only.
I hope this helps.

(If your TV has newer inputs, use the VGA port if available. The HDMI port for many TVs do not always interpret a computer HDMI signal correctly.)

Can you not just RIGHT click anywhere on the desktop and select Screen resoution.

You could try re-installing the video driver.
It's available here at Sony's site along with all the other drivers.

You didn't indicate what type of connection you have between the TV and the PC. The basic color scheme is red-blue-green, so your tint sounds like it's missing the red. It could be a cable problem, can you try replacing it/them. Or it could be a problem with the computer. If you don't want to return it you could try a different video card. I'm assuming you are using the motherboard video drivers.

How to run laptop through tv

G'Day mate!

In order to send the picture from any computer to a TV screen, you must have a VGA input on the TV. You can't output your computer signal using s-video, HDMI, or component cables because they aren't designed for computer use. If you have a VGA connection on your TV, then you can use a standard VGA cable. If your TV doesn't have one, unfortunately you're out of luck.

I hope I've provided you useful assistance and that this information allows you to make an informed decision as to how to proceed from here. I hope I've earned a positive rating from you today.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
