N3251w 32" flat lcd hdtv HELP PLeasE! (by 3 users)

posted by Katie Mae on Oct 15, 2007

While watching normal cable, vcr, and dvd, the moniter starts to go black (sometimes in corner and then all) along with a seriously annoying high pitched squeel.  Months ago a blck box would appear with funky codes on it (HA HA HA a few times) and then disappear.  What can we do to fix this, it is JUST PAST warranty.

Have not seen the codes on the screen, but have the same "squeal problem". If the tv is left on any input except for "AV" then there is a 50% chance that the next time the unit is turned on, it will emit this extremely loud "squeal". You have to turn off, then back on to fix it. It will also randomly freeze (remote/buttons on top won't work), and a line or two of pixels at the top of the screen will turn all green. It seems to me that viewsonic sure didn't put this unit through much quality control (as far as the software goes).

I have the 27' version, it's about 5 months old. I get the black box in the center of the screen (like a DOS prompt or unix shell) which continually displays some sort of code! Seems to be only on channels 19 - 25! I also once saw a line of text which made no sence but had the word "suck" in it twice!!!

It could be CC text. Try to press CC button on the remote untill is off.

No, it's not CC text. It's some sort of operating system error. It actually got a lot worse and to the point that the black box which appears in the center of the screen and takes up 80% of the screen was on all of the time printing error codes. So the only solution I could find was to return the TV and get a different one. Now I have a Sony which is in a totally different league to the Viewsonic. Oh and that was the 3rd (and final) viewsonic that I tried and had problems with. I suppose you get what you pay for!!
