FLIP THE BRUSH (RUG RENOVATOR) OVER AND REMOVE THE SCREWS ON THE SILVER GUARD THAT KEEPS THE ROLLER IN PLACE. SLIDE THE ROLLER UP OUT OF THE SLOT, TAKING NOTE ON THE HALF MOON SHAPED SIDE. REMOVE THE OLD BELT(OR WHAT'S LEFT OF IT). PLACE THE BELT AROUND THE MOTOR SHAFT FIRST. THEN AROUND THE WOODEN BARE SPOT ON THE ROLLER. PUT THE ROUND(CIRCULAR) SIDE OF THE ROLLER IN FIRST, THEN CAREFULLY STRETCH THE ROLLER WHILE HOLDING IN THE ROUND SIDE IN ONE SIDE AND ROTATE THE ROLLER UNTILL THE HALF MOON LINES UP TO THE SLOT. PUSH IT DOWN INTO THE SLOT AND PUT THE ROLLER COVER BACK IN PLACE AND RE-INSTALL THE SCREWS. AND THERE YOU HAVE IT. HOPE THIS HELPS. PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED. THANK YOU FOR THE HONEST RATING AND FOR USING FIX-YA.

IS THERE A RECTANGULAR PANEL ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE BRUSH HEAD? IF THERE IS, THEN TRY REMOVING THE SCREWS THAT HOLD IT IN PLACE TO REVEAL THE MOTOR SHAFT. THIS SHOULD MAKE IT ALOT EASIER TO INSTALL THE BELT. IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY, THE BELT COULD BE TURNED SIDEWAYS AND SLIPPED PAST THE SHAFT AND THEN TURNED SO THE INSIDE OF THE BELT COULD BE PUT LOOSELY AROUND THE SHAFT. THEN THE BRUSH STRETCHED A BIT TO LINE UP THE ROLLER. HOPE THIS WORKS FOR YOU. PLEASE KEEP ME INFORMED. IF YOU STILL NEED ASSISTANCE, I WILL DO MY BEST. THANKS FOR YOUR PATIENCE.

Kenmore vacuum cleaner model no. 116. 5861279 belt replace

Do you need the belt or the directions for changing the belt? Sears Parts Direct has the manual for the 116.58612790 here: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Kenmore-Parts/Vacuum-Parts/user-manuals/manual-downloads/Model-11658612790/0582/0640500?modelNumber=11658612790&diagramPageId=&documentId= . The direct link to the manual is http://c.searspartsdirect.com/mmh/pd_download/lis_pdf/OWNM/L0802691.pdf . See pages 14-15 of the manual.

To replace the belt, you need to remove the light cover and then the light bulb. Press in the sides of the cover and lift to remove it. the bulb needs to be pushed in and then turned couter-clockwise. Remove the cover screws. Then flip over the Power Mate and use the flat blade screwdriver to release both tabs. Turn the Power Mate back to right side up and press on the handle quick release pedal and lower the swivel. Tilt the cover forward until it snaps free. Carefully, use your screwdriver to pop the brush supports free on both sides to remove the brush. Slide off the old belt. (If needed, slide off the brush supports and washers. Clean the brush before reassembling the unit. Then replace the brush supports and washers.) Push the belt on motor drive and then onto the brush sprocket. Push the brush supports back into place on the base. (Make sure that this isn't assembled upside down.) Then line up the front of the cover with the base and tilt the cover back into place. Press firmly until you hear both sides click into place. Replace the cover screws, light bulb and bulb cover.

The belt is available here: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/Kenmore-Vacuum-Parts/742024/0020/116/Model-11658612790/0582/0640500.html . This is part number 5285; it's the direct replacement for the original 742024 belt.

I hope this helps.

Is there a more efficient way to clean the brush assembly on the max extract dual v other than running the assembly under water? The bristles are loaded with carpet fuzz and remains of doggy doo

Following is the procedure for removing the brushes.
  • Your cleaner is equipped with removable brushes. Follow these directions for changing brush assemblies or for easy cleaning. How to Remove To prevent possible leaking, remove Clean Water Tank and Dirty Water Tank. Set tanks aside. With handle in upright position, tilt cleaner back until handle rests on the floor. 5.3 Grab brush assembly and pull firmly.
  • The brushes can be cleaned under running water. ! CAUTION ! To reduce the risk of injury from moving parts, unplug cleaner before servicing.

How do I open the vac to check the belt and clean the hose ? I followed the link and it makes no sense to me, see details

The power nozzle refers to the beater bar located inside the bottom of the brush or the machine depending on if you have an upright or central vac unit. Lay it down or turn it over, you'll see the brush in the bottom, that's the power nozzle. Remove the cover screws and cover and replace the beater and/or belt as needed. Take images as you disassemble to make sure you get it all back in correctly.

How do i install a vacuum belt?

It should loop around the roller, Rachelle, then twist one-quarter turn to hook over the motor shaft (the steel one that points straight down). Now, it CAN be hooked over the motor shaft in either of two directions, depending upon which direction you twist it - one way will make the roller run backwards and probably pop the belt back off the shaft. The other way is the correct way - if the roller rotates the correct direction when you bump the power switch, then it's on correctly.

How do I replace the smaller belt that attaches to the brush

Hello! Follow the steps below to replace the v-belt on your Hoover.

1. Slide flat belt off large pulley.
2. To remove v-belt, slide back of belt over pulley. Then firmly pull on belt and snap it off. Discard used belt.
3. To install new belt (with lettering on outside of belt) slide back of belt over pulley and pull front of belt toward groove next to pulley. Belt will pop into place.
4. Insert brush-roll through belt and position belt in groove on brush-roll.

I have also included a link you may visit to view the owner's manual and these instructions.

Wish to remove bottom ofpowerhead-Kenmore Progressive 11629912990

I have a whispertone vacuum, different model #, but maybe instructions will be the same. Turns out I didn't need a new belt, just clean out the crud and reset overload protector. The instructions in the manual tell you to remove the light cover and bulb first. To do this, press in and lift both sides. Push in and turn bulb counterclockwise to remove. (you need to do this because the next step involves turning the unit over). This takes you to
Step 2. Unscrew the cover screws ( on either side of bulb).
Step 3. Turn unit over. To remove cover, insert screwdriver at cover tabs on both sides and twist to release tabs.
Step. 4 Turn unit right side up. Press handle release pedal and lower the swivel. Tilt cover forward from back until front snaps free.
Step 5. Carefully insert and twist screwdriver at each brush support to free brush from base.
Step 6. Remove worn belt.
Step 7. Slide brush supports off to check and clean brush support areas.

To replace belt: slide washers and brush supports onto brush assembly.
Install new belt over motor drive, then over brush sprocket.
Snap brush supports into place on base. Be sure brush supports are not upside down.
Line up front of cover and base. Rest cover on front edge of base. Tilt cover to back. Press cover firmly until side tabs snap into place. Replace cover screws, light bulb and light cover.

Kenmore Elegance Vacuum cleaner - power bar not working

The problem almost certainly is that the axle of the brush in your power bar has dirt/fluff in it that is preventing the belt from turning it so that the fuse in the power bar clicks off after 2 or 3 seconds. It is fairly easy to fix. All you will need is a Phillips screwdriver and about 15 minutes. Follow the following steps

1. With the power bar disconnected from the vacuum, turn it upside down and you will see two inset screws at the rear side of the base of the power bar. Unscrew these two screws using your Phillips screwdriver.

2. With the power bar in the same position unlatch the two plastic tabs at the rear of the power par. [It may be useful to flip up the metal bar that you see on the base to use as a handle] On each side of the base you will see an arrow saying insert screwdriver here to release. Insert a screwdriver and lever the plastic of the base slightly apart from the plastic of the side. When you have done this for both sides the base should lift off.

3. Now lift the brush including the two end pieces straight up. It should just slide up. You will need to unhook the drive belt from the brush as you lift it out.

4.Pull of each end piece and clean the dust, lint, hair off the end piece and from inside the end of the brush.

5.Once clean, reinstall the end pieces on the brush. Hook the belt back over the brush to its original position and slide the brush back into the power bar.

6. Reinstall the base by hooking the tabs from the front of the base into the small openings on the power bar.then push the base down until it clicks back into place and the tabs are back in their original position. Reinstall the two screws you removed earlier.

7. The power bar should now work. Good luck.
