If you have the dell password override cd, you can always reboot the computer back to factory defaults if you just want to start over.

How old is the Computer? If you have another computer to log onto the Internet, write down the service tag of the Inspiron 531 and get the specs on your computer from the dell web site. You could have to much running in the background which causes it to freeze. Are you also able to get to the boot up sequence by pressing F2 or F12?

My dell inspiron 1525 was updating and when it got to the 3 of 3 update it wouldn't go past 0% and then it will restart itself and do it over again

Switch ON the PC, boot the PC in 'Safe Mode' by continuously tapping F8 button after you switch On.

Let windows boot in Safe Mode and log in to windows.

Go to 'Start'--->Programs--->Accessories--->System Tools--->System Restore

Here you will have to check "Restore computer to an earlier time' and click Next
Now you will find one Month Calendar window with Dates below, go to the previous month by clicking the '<' sign in the upper left hand corner of the Month Calendar and select any date that you see in Bold.

The detail of that particular date should show "System Checkpoint" and time on the right hand side box. Select that date.

Now, Click on Next and System Restore will start and windows will take a reboot.

After reboot your problem should be resolved.

you most likely have a driver conflict when you re-boot hit the F8 key go to safe mode and try to do a system restore to a day before the problem occured

My insprion 1525 does not have the repair computer option in the advance boot options...how can I reboot the hard drive to factory settings?

Hello,

If you have the retore disk, this will be your best option. Not only will it restore your system but also put the recovery partition back on your hard drive.

Good Luck

Error code 5300:0119

Can you start it in safe mode? If so, try to do a system restore.
Next do a start>run>sfc/scannow to see if there are any system files messed up.
Can't start in safe mode? Then try to boot from the system disk and at the first prompt to do a repair type "R". Then run chkdsk /r to see if this solves the problem. This will fix bad files.

Still out of luck? Then you are looking probably in the right direction when you suspect the video card.
