Question about Audio Players & Recorders

2 Answers

I bought some second hand Technics SB HD 501 speakers, & noticed some note on the back that said something about 'risk of fire if not used with proper units etc'. is this true? They have two speaker cable pair inputs - HF & LF. Can they be used as regular speakers safely by connecting only one of the pairs? I've tried it, connecting to LF & they sound pretty good, but don't want to damage them. Can anyone out there help me?

Don't sweat it unless you're going to chain them to an electric arc wielder or something like that. I think your amp would cut out or the sound would get really bad long before a fire started. ;-)

Any typical amplifier that is NOT driven beyond it's capabilities will do just fine. Just make sure the impedance requirements of the amp and the speakers are in the same ballpark. Speakers being too low is possibly a problem but not dangerous, too high is no biggie.

I have just bought a technics sc-dv290 hi-fi off of my cousin and found out the mid range and the tweeters have blown does anyone know where i could get replacent tweeters and mid-range speakers for it if...

As you probably know, these are the individual model numbers:

SC-DV290 the base unit
SB-DV290 speaker set

Front SB-DV290
Center SB-PC95
Surround SB-PS95

I'd scour Google or eBay for any or all of those models. Orphan speakers appear periodically.

Hi. Having problem getting sound from the little tweeters on my technics sb-1970 speakers. They are 3way linear phase speakers 90w each. I took the tweeter out and every wire is connected. Tried pushing...

If you went so far as looking at the wires on the tweeters you could have taken an ohmmeter to them to see if they're blown.

Is there a back story to this? What preceded the investigation?

OK. I suggest typing the model in on EBay and getting the cheapest one there is.

I have my vsx-1018ah receiver hooked up in for 7.1. Everything was fine for months. Now the back right speaker won't work. Speaker is fine, connection is good. Tried hooking up a different speaker and...

Assuming you're using the Surround Back speakers for their primary purpose, let's establish that there is something in the way of programming being routed to that speaker. Fire up the speaker level setup procedure and use any handy audio device (*) to see if a signal is present at the Surround Back Pre Out jack. If not, that speaker will never, uh, speak.

* For this test you could use your powered subwoofer. You DO have one, right? Just swap the RCA cable from Sub W Pre Out to the SB R Pre Out jack to see if anything appears there.

How to hookup ipod to technics sb-2840 speakers

quick solution is to go down to radio shack and get a small amp.  They have them for under a $100.00 bucks. The connection is from the mini jack to stereo RCA's for greatest ease and flexibility.  You can also go to a good music shop like Guitar Center and see what they have used.

Max. wattage for speakers w/ Technics Receiver SA-GX100?

I too have a Technics SA-GX100 and it's rated at 2 x 40W @ 8 Ohms. I have the Technics SB-2840 floor model speakers hooked to it, which are rated at 200W Music Input - 8 ohms. It sounds very nice just to be a 40W receiver.

Technics hifi speaker cover

Hi There Elvis,

Obtaining the exact copy will be difficult...as follows---
The manufacturer makes production runs then moves onto the next model, only certain original parts are kept for spares then once these are all sold then the spares become obsolete..

There maybe different shades of colour on the speaker material
and it usually fades in use anyway from sunlight and other UV factors.

I would suggest that you make the repair yourself. The speakers them selves are worth saving so if you can ease the front covers of and work out how to remove the material 'matt'. There are curtain shops that sell material so you could go there and choose a material that tones in with your lounge colours and just
install the new material yourself....

The other alternative is to advertise for second hand speakers for this Technics model and replace the complete speakers cover fronts and all...you could watch the for sale sections alos on the internet or newspaper...

Cheers from YUBEUT...

Speaker Hook Up - Non-Technical (single) Female

bought the same amp second hand and had same problem as there are two seperate amp chips inside one for front speakers and one for the centre and rears it could be the actual amp chip that drives the front speakers has died as there is no built in speaker protection so over driving these speakers will result in the amp chip blowing . it may be something simple but it was not on mine had to buy new amp chip and solder in that sorted the problem for me !
