This is probably THE most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

I have a HP Photosmart M637 camera and would like to use a 4 GB SDHC memory card. Which company card should I use? Kingston? Pilot? Sandisk? Would any of these be fine to use in my camera? Thank you for...

SDHC cards from any of the major brands will work fine. However, I strongly recommend getting two cards. I haven't had one go bad yet, but I'd no more go out for a photo shoot without a second card any more than I'd go for a drive without a spare tire in the trunk.

How to download videos i recorded onto my computer. I know how to download pictures but video's from my camera don't download

Are you plugging your camera into the computer? If so, try this instead:
a)Ensure the camera is off.
b)Remove the memory card from the camera.
c)Insert the memory card in a card reader (either part of your PC/laptop, or plugged into the PC's USB port
d)The PC should see the memory card as a hard drive. Select my computer, open the "drive" that is your memory card, and then you should be able to drag & drop (or copy & paste) the video clips to the hard drive on your PC.
e) Click on the "safely remove hardware" icon in your PC task tray.
f) remove the memory card from the card reader.

Hi, I cannot download my photos from my camera HP Photosmart M637 to my computer witch has OS windows 7 ultimate. Could you please help me? Thanks in advance Humberto Quaresma humberto@quaresma.ws

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries. This method will also continue to work when you update your camera or your computer.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Hi there please follow the steps and let me know the result.
1. Ensure batteries are fully charged & clean the battery connector point in side the battery compartment.
2. Look carefully between the lens and the camera body for any sand, dirt or any damaged etc.
3. Try turning the camera with the lens facing down and shake to dislodge anything stuck
4. Try removing batteries and memory card, wait 5 minutes and refit the battery only.
5. Now turn on camera( with out card ) and see ,if working then fix the memory card & again turn on the camera. If working then fine . Otherwise format the memory card and fix back in camera again & try. Make sure before format the memory card take a back up all photos in your computer then format. If you're getting the 18-4489-957-000 error code, then give it a good tap on the corner where the lens cap is. A little tapping and the lens cover should pop closed. When you turn the camera on again it will probably work just fine.

I was just about to junk my camera when I googled the error code and found this very tip in another thread. It worked like a charm.
